Meet Christina Anderson | Dancer, Choreograher, Bartender, Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought behind starting my own business was to become one step closer to freedom. Working for someone else on their terms was always a daunting task for me, so starting my business in the hopes of making sustainable income was my motivation.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have a different quality of movement than the classically trained dancer and the street dancer. What sets me apart from others is that I don’t recite choreography with my body. Rather, I let the song resonate within me and translate the choreography through how my body chooses to.
Confidence is how I go to where I am professionally. There is no wrong form of art. No, I am not classically trained but you cannot tell sometimes because I am confident in my ability to tell the story.
It is not easy. Imposter syndrome sometimes creeps in. At times, it wins. However, it is up to me to allow it to take over my life or not. That is the lesson that I have learned. Be confident in your artistry. It may not be for everybody but the opportunities that are aligned for you will not miss you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I lived in Orlando for eight years, so I will discuss that.
I would take my best friend to Hillstone for a steak dinner. We’d order a bottle of red wine, and we’d discuss our dreams and desires. We would go downtown to Thrive for a nightcap. Perhaps to Eden for a little dance break.
We’d take a trip to Disney springs for a cute lunch and walk to discuss life and reminisce on good times. We would go bowling because nothing sparks the night like a friendly competition. Then head to Mathers ( a speakeasy downtown) for a night of drinks and laughs.
We’d take a couple of dance classes for bonding and rejuvenation.
We would also go to Epcot for the food and wine festival to drink and eat “around the world.”
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well, let’s start with Beyonce. She didn’t necessarily “get it out of the mud” like your typical success story. However, I admire her work ethic. She works extremely hard and bearing witness to the success of her discography; one cannot deny that. She started many companies because she saw something missing from the industry and wanted to provide her own twist. There were already great singers and performers before her, so she knew she had to be the hardest worker in the room if she wanted to be amongst the greats.
My friends. The Arts is a thankless profession. We, as artists, sometimes bare our souls on those stages for pennies and applause, yet we get up every day and pursue it relentlessly. I am forever grateful to my friends, specifically those who I had the chance to transform with on my cruise contract. They are the most humble and talented human beings that I have had the privilege to know.
