We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Brinkerhoff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, what role has risk played in your life or career?

I view risk as opportunity – the pathway to taking myself past my threshold and experience new growth. I have to constantly push myself to find a new edge personally and professionally and that comes with risk but also great reward. In terms of Valkyrie Racing, risk is endemic to every part of our ethos – we are doing extreme racing on every corner of the globe and naturally, risk is braided into every fiber of that.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have had a few career iterations already, having attended film school at USC and then being a talent agent in Los Angeles, I didn’t see this version of my life around the bend. An opportunity arose for me to work with my mom as she races around the world and to run our nonprofit together. I have been able to use my training as I film a documentary on our journey around the globe. I would not say getting here was remotely easy, a lot of years trying out different jobs and seeing if they fit, pouring my heart into things that I wasn’t ultimately inspired by – a lot of trial and error. I learned that excellence always begets new opportunities, even if you need to change course – leave it on the field every time. Our story is one of reinvention and passion, my mom started racing in her late 50’s and completely reinvented my life at 30 after some serious health challenges – we are always reshaping and reforming, it’s never too late and every day is a fresh opportunity to change the world for the better.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Mmm well – I live in Venice, so a stop by the farmer’s market on Friday morning after getting coffee at Alfred. A walk through the canals and a breakfast burrito at Great White. Saturday – breakfast at Gjusta, hike Eagle Rock in Topanga, watch the sunset off of Point Dume, Taverna Tony’s for dinner. Sunday – a trip to Griffith Observatory by way of Mulholland Drive, then down to Tu Madre for some tacos and a stroll around Los Feliz. Erewhon always and a trip to the Getty is a must.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A bit on the nose, but my mom! We work together in Valkyrie Racing, she is a race car driver (currently racing on every continent of the world) and we run a nonprofit to combat child trafficking together. Her encouragement and support have allowed me a lot of latitude to explore opportunities and chart new challenges.
