We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina (Chuyue) Wen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina (Chuyue), we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think taking risks is very important for people to grow their careers and businesses. However, it is important to be smart about the risks we take as well. When you feel comfortable at your current space, and can see a possible future path for which direction you are trying to grow, is the best time to be bold and take your career/business to the next level. That being said, I think it is also important to leave yourself room for backups in case your risk didn’t work the way you wish it to be, and that includes leaving financial rooms for safety funds, a potential previous job title to go back to. Whenever you are leaving a position it is very helpful to maintain good relationships with people in your industry. For me, I have been taking risk in the sound industry for Film and Television and it has been working out for me tremendously.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a sound mixer and editor for Film and Television. A lot of the time audience don’t realize how much sound and music contribute to the entertainment content we consume. Soundscapes can very much impact the meaning and feeling of the film work. I worked my way up from assisting other industry professionals and eventually used everything I learned to stand on my own feet. I very much enjoy getting to work with sound teams and be creative and watch a whole film come together. The sound industry is not easy, but the creativity and the meaning behind each project makes the hard work worth it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For a weekend trip, I would a hundred percent take them on a hike in the LA mountains. And then take them out to delicious traditional Chinese food in San Gabriel and Arcadia. Then at night we would go out to get wine and drinks in Highland Park, Silverlake or Echo park. On York Blvd. there is awesome wine bar such as Holcomb. Johnny’s Bar makes the best cocktails. And then you can make a quick stop at Vintage Tattoo Art Parlor for a tattoo session. Belle’s bagels have the best breakfast bagels.
In San Gabriel, we’ll have to eat at Shan Cheng La Mei Zi for traditional Chinese hotpot. Lan noodle makes the best handmade Chinese noodle bowls. There are lots of food trucks in San Gabriel as well for traditional Chinese Tapas.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give a shoutout to Signature Post my home base studio. And also my mentors, Alexandra Fehrman and Rich Weingart, Without their support and guidance I would not have been where I am today in my career.
