We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina DuVarney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Beautiful Disaster Clothing helps Women in communities worldwide by giving them confidence they can wear. Self-acceptance hanging in their closet. Every single day we have to wear clothing, so why not choose to wear clothing that inspires you and others? Every Beautiful Disaster Collection tells a little part of your story without you saying a word. We get an overwhelming number of customers that share stories with us about meeting other Beautiful Disaster’s out in the world, simply because they know if you are wearing Beautiful Disaster that you are more alike than you know. It has opened up conversations and human connections which is exactly what it is designed to do. We’re bringing women together, one tee shirt at a time. Beautifully Broken and Perfectly Imperfect, everyone has a story.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community? We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others.
I believe what sets Beautiful Disaster Clothing apart from other clothing brands is the brand is not about us, this is not a brand we created to serve ourselves and our ideals. This is a brand we created to serve Women who are trying to move further from pain and closer to happiness.

What you are most proud of or excited about?
As the founder of Beautiful Disaster Clothing what I am the most proud of is the Women in our tribe who have found healing from our brand and community. The comments and emails that we get on a daily basis about how our brand has helped them hold their head a little higher on a daily basis, the fact that when they put on their Beautiful Disaster Clothing it is like a suit of armor for them and they have more confidence than they did. To know that in some small way we made a difference in their lives is something I take great pride in. I am excited to expand our reach of Women across the globe and offer this gift of wearable confidence to even more women who need it.

How did you get to where you are today professionally?
Hard work, dedication and failure. Nothing in my life came easy, I had to work hard for everything I have ever achieved. I knew in my heart and soul that there was a purpose behind my passion and giving up was never an option. Every time I failed it just made me more determined to succeed. The true story of Beautiful Disaster is that this brand was built out of failure, just like Me and just like the Women we serve. Life wasn’t easy for them, it wasn’t easy for me and success wasn’t easy for this brand.

Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
No. It wasn’t easy, it was hard, and it is still hard. Every day brings a new challenge and a new frustration, luckily that is how life has always been for me so this wasn’t anything new. The hard work, failure and persistence is what is the most rewarding. In life we have to overcome challenges every single day, business is no different in fact it is even more challenging. I overcome business challenges just like I overcome personal challenges, by just not giving up, by failing forward, by figuring it out as I go. If anyone ever tells you there is a rule book in life or business they are crazy! You have to JUST KEEP GOING.

What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
There have been thousands of lessons along the way but the one that stands out at the moment is that if your purpose is big enough and you respect it enough and you stay true to it, you will succeed. With a big enough purpose you can overcome anything. It doesn’t happen fast and it doesn’t happen easily but if you stay focused on your purpose, you WILL WIN. No matter what happens with our brand as long as we come back to the women who we serve and the purpose of our brand we will always find our way.

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
That we are more than just clothing. We are a sisterhood of Women with stories that are very similar yet incredibly different. The common thread (pun intended) is that we all have a story. A unique, painful, traumatizing and beautiful story. We are Beautiful Disaster’s, we have been through hell and back and what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. I want every woman who has never felt like she fit in to know that they are welcome in the Beautiful Disaster tribe. No matter where you are at in your journey to self acceptance we are here to love and support you. I want the world to know how incredible it feels to love yourself and be proud of your story.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am from Ventura, CA. If my best friend was visiting and I wanted to show them the best time ever we would start with a bike ride to Downtown Ventura and for sure hit up Dargan’s Irish Pub! They have incredible drinks and the best Irish Fare in town! After stuffing our faces with bangers and mash we would probably hop around to some of my favorite dive bars, you can’t go wrong with San Souci or the Star Lounge! If we felt like shaking our asses we would likely end up at the Tavern, which is an incredible historic building that has been converted into a bar and nightclub. Once we recovered, we would hike Arroyo Verde and maybe even walk up to the famous Cross at Grant Park. The trip would not be complete without spending some time at some of Ventura’s famous beaches, perhaps Mondo’s for a surf lesson and then over to Rincon Point to watch the real pros surf. Another bike ride to the Ventura Harbor would definitely be in order, a yummy drink at The Boat Yard, maybe an Ice Cream from Coastal Cone and a paddle boat ride in the harbor. There is no lack of fun things to do in this beautiful beach town!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is dedicated to every Woman who has been through hell and back and is still standing. The women in the Beautiful Disaster Tribe inspire me on a daily basis. Their stories bring me to my knees and change me at my core. Everything we do is for them.
