We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christopher, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want to be remembered as one of the multi talented behind the scenes guy in the music & Ent industry! I can go from creating content to finding the hottest artist out right now. I want to be the guy remembered for finding the Rare Gems, the diamonds in the rough!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So recently I left Sony/Soundplus as the A&R. I now only focus on my company Cru Ent (Chris Robinson Urban Ent) but it also stands for crew because I can’t do this by myself I need a team of individuals like myself. Which is hard to find lol. Right now I offer services such as artist management, Digital Marketing, Artist Development, content creating, consulting, Digital Billboard placement, and we will son be offering distribution for artist’s. I didn’t get to this point over night and I’m still working. I started out doing podcasting (Cru podcast) in Rhode Island, I knew I wanted to get into this industry I just didn’t know how. Plus at that time my daughter (step daughter) was playing the viola and her mother wasn’t letting me see her so I figured I create a platform for the both of us and when I can see her again it Would be already in place for her. Unfortunately that summer of 2017 my daughter passed away I worked really hard to get her out of the Situation she was in but it’s very hard for a father in the courts. After that i said I would continue for myself and my son (her brother) I decided to manage a artist from Rhode Island named grind time tec, I’m from nyc I know everyone so I knew I could help him if I learned everything plus I always knew I have an ear for talent and rare findings I don’t know why lol. That didn’t work out well but I landed an A&R position with Soundplus and moved back to nyc. I worked the nyc area for two years making my name known and building up artists. After all that today I know manage Miss Pretty from Albany Ga, Yung musa. I provide services to known artist such as Sns and skitzo/Rod Rhaspy. I have a few artist in the south area also who I am developing. I’m still growing in this game and I love everything I’ve encountered so far. The one thing I learned though is keep genuine people around you and never take the first deal. This is a dirty game you have to stay educated and pay attention to who and what’s around you and always KEEP GOD FIRST! That’s how I’ve made it through all of this by knowing god watches over me!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not much of an outside guy lol, but me I like to go eat in midtown. I love BBQs in Times Square. Bryant park is beautiful also Dumbo in Brooklyn is amazing and has some great rooftop restaurants.
