We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Shalchi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christopher, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
There are few things I obsess over in life; aside from trying to be the best father I can be to my daughter – solving problems is one of them. Even as a kid in school I would discover new ways to solve math problems faster than how we were told and would get dinged points for “showing incorrect work”. When I needed more money for lunch in school I would resell candy and then cigarettes in high school to make the cash needed to leave campus for Sonic everyday. When I was 17 I began to read a series of personal development books by authors like Napoleon Hill, Jack Canfield and Brian Tracy to name a few and realized the huge gap of knowledge pertaining to self for people my age that I created a program based on a synthesis of my findings – the first official business I created as a 501c3 organization. I quickly learned that to be successful in business I had to learn more about technology, digital marketing and specifically how to grow a brand and ultimately sales online – a new obsession that led to me being brought on by the world’s largest software company to manage the digital infrastructure strategy for the largest companies in the world. I knew the best way to capitalize on my success was to start my own software business and thus led to the birth of Mavecca – a now multi-million dollar business. With my music production, an obsession I hadn’t lost since age 5 led me to start my own music publishing company, media company and personal brand for music productions “KENSHO” to help accelerate the results I was experiencing. I’ve always sought to find the most efficient way to solve any problem I obsessed over and naturally, I found that starting your own business is the most effective and beneficial way to do this.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a music producer, I chose the name KENSHO because of what it represents in terms of growth – in Buddhism there is Satori and Kensho. Satori refers to the easier, yet less common experience of growth in the form of new learnings or insight. KENSHO refers to the more common, yet less fun to experience form of growth through pain and adversity. What sets my music apart is that when I write a song, I am writing through the lens of a recent experience. More specifically sharing the emotions I feel when overcoming adversity in order to grow – sharing the authentic nature of these “KENSHO” moments through my music. I spend hours in sound design to bring a new and heartfelt yet deep and grungy listening experience. I’ve been writing music since I was only 10 years old and have won several battle of the bands as a drummer growing up and now with my productions as KENSHO I have captured the attention of major EDM labels like Toolroom and gained the support of artists like MEDUZA. I’ve just started to scratch the surface of experiencing success and believe this journey has only just begun. We are all capable of incredible things that the universe is ready to grant us the moment we believe. Stay true to yourself, believe with your entire being and trust the process of daily action.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I’m in LA with friends or family I have to make sure we hit some of the favorite spots that usually include groundwork coffee in arts district, taking a drive up blue canyon in the Hollywood hills for an unforgettable view and head back into town for some nanas empanadas near the beverly center. I always make time to swing by one of the Ice Cream Studio locations to get some final touches done to a mix or sit in with ADHD on any of his sessions to learn and collaborate.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many to acknowledge and thank for my success today. First, my best friends who always believed and supported me like Samir Akhter, platinum record producer and founder of Ice Cream Sound, Dean Straub, platinum record producer known by KenzDean and the Creative Director and branding genius that is Reonell Gloria. Then the books that have changed my life are The Success Principles by Jack Canfield, As a Man Thinketh by James Allen, The Science of Being Well by Wallace D Wattles and The Book of Secrets by Deepak Chopra.
