We had the good fortune of connecting with Christy B and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christy, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Because I love my work so much I never considered the need for work-life balance. Then I had a baby and my whole world was turned upside down! I wasn’t able to juggle it all so I stopped working. That seemed like the right choice as a new mother, but it turned out to be the wrong choice for me. I didn’t feel like myself and I was suffering. I slowly started to pick up projects and it turned out that motherhood made me extremely efficient! I was laser-focused on whatever I was doing because I knew I had limited time before the baby needed me again. What I thought was going to be disastrous to my career, turned out to be an advantage. Now, I run a tight schedule and am very organized. When I’m working, I’m very focused and when I’m with my kid, I’m not checking emails or trying to multitask. I think balance looks different for everyone and the most important thing is that everyone in your circle (your family, your clients, and even YOU) feels cared for.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Christy B Design specializes in renovations and interior design for detail-oriented, busy professionals. We are very excited to be launching a custom, luxury home goods collection in Spring 2021. My goal is to bring custom designed spaces and goods to my clients. Custom design can be intimidating or overwhelming for people, but for me, it is essential. I don’t want anything cookie-cutter in my life and neither do my clients. Figuring out my passion for my industry was easy, I have always been creative and creating things. Figuring out my specific passion WITHIN my industry was harder, but once I did that, everything lit up. Focusing on custom made pieces and branching out into product design came with a lot of introspection and a willingness to dream big. I think sometimes the only thing stopping us from total fulfillment is that we haven’t given ourselves permission to have what we want. This is my current stage in my entrepreneural journey and it feels great! I’m so excited to bring this energy into the homes and products I design.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Basically since COVID-19 I have discovered that the best spot in the city is in fact, my backyard! Seriously, it’s become a legit playground for toddlers and adults. We have a Vegas-worthy sound system around the pool, a water gun arsenal to rival any Columbian cartel and we grill a mean tri-tip with homemade chimichurri on the side.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
