Meet Chung Wei Wang | Product and Furniture Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chung Wei Wang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chung Wei, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative career because I’ve always been drawn to the connection between people and the objects they interact with. Growing up, I loved exploring art and design, which led me to discover the joy of creating things that enrich daily life and provoke new perspectives. For me, being a designer means helping people see the world differently, whether through functional products or meaningful interactions. This passion for connecting people, objects, and emotions is what drives my work and gives purpose to my creative journey.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is deeply rooted in creating connections—between people, their environments, and the objects they interact with. What sets me apart is my focus on designing products that invite interaction and spark curiosity, blending functionality with poetic experiences.
Getting to where I am today has been far from easy. Like many designers, I’ve faced challenges, from navigating cultural differences during international collaborations to pushing through creative blocks. However, these experiences have taught me resilience and the value of learning from diverse perspectives. The key lesson I’ve learned is that design is a process of constant iteration—it’s about listening, observing, and never being afraid to start over if it leads to a better outcome.
What I want the world to know about my work is that every piece I design carries a story. My goal is to create designs that that evoke emotions, memories, or connections unique to the individual, helping people see the beauty in everyday life. Whether it’s a product for humans or animals, my work is about fostering meaningful connections and enriching experiences.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would recommend a trip that my friend can enjoy the artistic vibe of the city and also something cool and interesting which you can only find in Los Angeles.
Day 1: Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood Sign
Kick off the trip with a hike to the Hollywood Sign via the Griffith Park trails. End the day at the Griffith Observatory, exploring its architecture, exhibits, and especially the stunning views of the city at sunset.
Day 2: Art Immersion at The Getty Center
Spend the day at The Getty Center, enjoying its impressive art collection, modern architecture, and serene gardens. It’s a perfect spot to soak in culture, creativity, and breathtaking views of LA.
Day 3: Universal Studios Hollywood
Spend the day at Universal Studios Hollywood, I would recommend exploring the Harry Potter area if my friend is a fan of magic world. Don’t miss the Studio Tour, where you’ll go behind the scenes and experience iconic movie sets. It’s a perfect day for some adventure, fun, and a little taste of Hollywood magic!
Day 4: Malibu Beach
It must be tired after the Universal trip. After that, drive up the coast to El Matador State Beach in Malibu. Spend the day enjoying the dramatic cliffs, tide pools, and serene beach vibes. Having food at the Malibu Farm Pier Café for fresh, coastal cuisine.
Day 5: Arts District Exploration
Wander through LA’s Arts District, home to stunning murals, design studios, and unique galleries. There are lots of cool galleries that you can take a look and enjoy.
Day 6: Hollywood’s Golden Era
Hollywood Walk of Fame is a must-go place! Step into Hollywood’s history by visiting the TCL Chinese Theatre. For a cinematic experience, take a tour at Warner Bros. Studios and discover behind-the-scenes magic. Don’t forget to take a picture with the tiles on the floor!
Day 7: Venice Beach Creativity and Sunset
Take a relaxing day at Venice Beach, exploring its vibrant street art, quirky boutiques, and the iconic skate park. End with a peaceful sunset at the beach, capturing the bohemian vibe of this unique neighborhood.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to all the people and even animals I’ve had the privilege to design for and interact with. Every user, whether human or animal, brings their own unique stories, behaviors, and needs, and it’s their trust and connection that inspire my work. They offer me the chance to observe how they engage with the world, revealing insights that help me create designs that resonate on a personal level. By addressing their needs and celebrating their individuality, I hope to give something meaningful back—whether it’s a product that enhances their daily life or a moment of joy that fosters a deeper connection.
