We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Sandoval and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cindy, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Initially I was on the path towards becoming an R&D Chemist for cosmetic products. I went to college and got my BS in Biochemistry. Although this field was something that interested me, I knew I didn’t have a passion for it. Growing up I always had some sort of creative outlet or project I was working on. Me taking on a science field was more for financial security and ended up working at a lab after I graduated college. During this period, I discovered my passion for photography and decided to switch career paths. Haven’t looked back since!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would say I’m definitely not where I want to be professionally, but I’ve learned so much and am proud of how far I’ve come. I am self taught and that alone has had its challenges. I think because of this, when you overcome an obstacle it’s very rewarding. You can truly do whatever you set your mind to.
I always want to create to inspire people so in order to do so my mental health needs to be up to par. A lesson I’ve learned that gets overlooked is how important it is to make time for yourself. Sometimes overworking can lead to burnout which can leave you feeling uninspired. I found that doing other tasks or hobbies can help spark new ideas. It’s a win-win!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area I would do a fun girls trip. The week would consist of going to brunch, going on a hike near Malibu or Laguna, possibly going to a concert at Sofi Stadium or Forum, and having ramen in k-town. In the evening I would take her to downtown LA to enjoy some edm shows at the smaller venues there.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to all my supporters, but most importantly my mother. I feel I wouldn’t be where I am today without her encouragement and positive spirit.
