We had the good fortune of connecting with claire de lune and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi claire, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
It’s funny because I work in both music and sports– and I think there are a lot of misconceptions about both. I think people think of music as this very supportive community of artists and while that can be true, I’ve found it to also contain a lot of very ambitious people who are quite competitive and cutthroat. Whereas with basketball, I think people maybe think of those things when they think of the NBA world, and while it definitely exists, I’ve found it to be a very supportive and welcoming community, a lot moreso than I think people imagine

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think sometimes when people find out that I both am a signed recording artist and also an NBA reporter, they think of those things as super disparate. And I definitely understand that. But at the end of the day, I’m a storyteller. Whether that’s through songs, articles, podcasts, poetry, or even visual art. That’s just something that’s super fundamental to who I am, and always will be. In any medium.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite LA days to do with someone who is visiting from out of town is to grab lunch at Grand Central Market (pupusas, probably, and maybe an iced coffee from Go get em, tiger) and then take the Angel’s Flight trolley up the hill, and walk over to the Broad, MoCA, or both. Then we take Angel’s Flight back down the hill, walk over to the Last Bookstore and wander around, and end the night with sushi handrolls at Kazunori.

Some other favs for food/bev:

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are honestly so, so many people who have helped me along the way it feels impossible to name just one. As an example, my friend Kristen Ledlow is someone who was supportive of me and my NBA media journey long before it could be considered anything resembling a career– she’s always been so kind, welcoming, and supportive. I’ve met a shocking number of people who have shown me kindness when they didn’t whatsoever need to, though. They truly make the world go around.
