We had the good fortune of connecting with Coby Chatwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Coby, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I grew up in Lake Elsinore, CA with a family of 4, where both of my parents and
even my grandparents were entrepreneurs. Their career paths / lifestyles brought many highs and lows, but, ultimately, it brought a level of freedom that allowed for them to be extremely involved in me and my sister’s lives. This has played a large role in my desire to start my own business, as I hope to be in the same position with my kids. Watching my parents work has fostered a sense of reliance that I believe is necessary for any aspiring entrepreneur. They have also been my biggest support system, picking me up when I fall and encouraging me to continue to take risks in my career.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I was 18 I got into real estate as a way to help with college expenses and
a potential career path. I got my license, began selling Real Estate on my
mentors team, and quickly fell in love with the industry. I was drawn to it primarily because of its focus on people. As an agent your professional opportunities are rooted in your existing relationships, or the relationships you are able to build.

Growing up I always valued my relationships, but pursuing real estate shed new light on their importance beyond my personal life. For the first 5 years I stayed on Kreg’s team at our local brokerage, but we were constantly talking about where the industry was headed. We felt a lot of companies were overlooking or undervaluing their agents, providing a very cookie-cutter experience and taking significant commission cuts. With this, we were inspired to create a hybrid route for agents of all experience levels to receive personalized support, based on actual needs, better technology that streamlines transactions, 1-on-1 coaching that accelerates careers, all while having one of the highest commission splits in the industry. We believe there is a human touch to Real Estate that cannot be overlooked, which is centered around the agent. We aim to provide a brokerage experience that makes agents better at what they do – helping others and building relationships.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
All great weekends start in Playa del Rey. Our whole team lives and works here–we consider it the hidden gem of LA. We would have to spend a day at the beach, grabbing lunch and drinks at one of the local spots like Mo’s or POW’s. At night we usually head up towards Santa Monica for a dinner and bar scene on Main St where it stays more casual. Sunday’s are always for golf and we like to explore courses throughout Los Angeles, but our favorite is Westdrift in Manhattan Beach. It’s a small par 3 course that you can finish in about 90 minutes, which makes it perfect for people of all skill levels. Sunday nights are usually spent BBQing at our house and watching the sunset before getting ready for the next week of work!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Link team: Kreg McCoy, Joseph Screen, Andrew Malekie, and Aaron Burnham. Kreg was my personal mentor and the one that suggested I get into real estate. It was from our talks and experiences that Link came to be. He was always there for me both within real estate and in my personal life–Link wouldn’t be where it is today without him. Joseph, Andrew, and Aaron are the ones in the office with me everyday and are the hardest workers I know. They are always on top of their work and I know I can trust them with anything. They make it easy to come in everyday and it really doesn’t feel like work when you get to be with your best friends everyday.
