Meet Cody Sloan

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cody Sloan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cody, how do you define success?
One of my professors in graduate school shared his definition with me, and it’s always stuck with me. I go back to it all the time. For me, success is having the people I respect, respect me. The longer I work, the more deeply I feel that the people I work with and collaborate with are the most important thing. When the people I look up to and respect fully see and appreciate my work too – that is true success to me. As an actor, success is not a set “place” that you reach and stay at. So, being able to work with people I love and respect, work on projects I believe in, and continue to learn and improve – that’s what I’m really striving for.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started acting professionally in Boston in 2016, when I was still a sophomore in college. I’m really grateful for the incredible theater community in Boston – it was a wonderful place to be a young artist! After working for a few years, I was fortunate enough to go to graduate school for acting at UCSD. Getting more classical training was something I always wanted to do, and being able to just focus on myself and my work for 3 years was such a gift. Some of my closest friends and collaborators are from UCSD. It was an extremely challenging time – I was pushed and critiqued in ways that were new to me. And my insecurities and imposter syndrome really came out full force! But, I was in a class of incredible artists and was lucky enough to be taught by some of the greatest theater artists in the country. That was beyond inspiring, and really pushed me to keep going.
Something I’m really proud of recently is co-founding and launching my production company, Baby Teeth, with Emily Moler, Russell Sperberg, and Caroline Keeler. We’ve produced two sold out shows, and have a short film coming out in 2025. Working with them to build this company has been such an incredible experience! Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the east side, so I would spend time in Highland Park, Echo Park, and Silver Lake. Maciel’s plant-based butcher & deli is a must! The Norton Simon Museum! I also love grabbing coffee and a treat from Bloom and Plume and walking around Echo Park Lake.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out my teachers and mentors. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them:
