We had the good fortune of connecting with Connie Yu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Connie, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
The idea of finding a work-life balance has been a goal of mine and an idea I tried to perfect in the past. Over the past few years especially during the 2020-2021 pandemic, I have found that the idea of work-life balance may never be “balanced”. I have learned to be more present and integrate every aspect and role in my life by being present in everything I do. Those that know me personally would describe me as someone who is overly busy. To me, busyness keeps me motivated, fulfilled, and happy. Being present and busy in various domains can be achievable.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Challenges are bound when running a small business or large corporation. Thus, setting the correct mindset is essential to trudging the long haul of a successful company. Challenge is inevitable and a sign of growth. As an entrepreneur, we have tangible responsibility which means each decision we make can impact successive departments or individuals. Thus, leaning in our team is essential to a company’s success.

The most challenging hurdle our company faced and many companies all over the world have faced is the 2020-2021 pandemic. This pandemic has forced our team to pivot and sustain our business by ensuring our clients continued therapeutic gains and success. New telehealth platforms have emerged and leading research has shown the benefits of telehealth services. However, as the vaccine rollouts have been in place, the next challenge for many companies is ensuring a smooth and safe transition back to in-person services. Our team has begun in-service treatment for young children who are not able to benefit from our telehealth sessions. Our team of dedicated Speech-Language Pathologists and Occupational therapists have continued to provide family and client-centered services since May 2020. Our pediatric clinic includes a multidisciplinary team of Speech therapists, Occupational therapists, Physical therapists, and Clinical Psychologists. We have been proud to help and service countless children and families within the San Gabriel Valley Region.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Success does not happen overnight. It takes years of hard work, dedication, motivation, and vision to achieve success. I would say that my success in life is an accumulation of mentorship, luck, determination, and vision. As a first-generation Asian American, my family and cultural values have played a large role in my success. My parents taught me at an early age the value of education and learning. Education has been highly regarded and placed paramount to success for the Chinese culture. Thus, I love reading and I love learning. One of my favorite podcasts related to business is Guy Raz on “How I Built This” produced by NPR. Guy, is such as wonderful host who leads his podcast with inspiring stories that include visions, struggles, and asking the hard questions that include every entrepreneur’s obstacles and the story of triumph.
