We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey Lyon Folsom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Corey Lyon, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My coaching clients were finding great benefit from a bunch of tools, including giving themselves better thoughts when, before, they would have let a critical voice have center stage.
As a love & relationship coach since 2012, I assist persons from all over the world to increase the soulfulness, clarity and ease with which they experience life. I do this by utilizing body-centered awareness, guiding people to access their own inner wisdom and applying better communication skills. I also ask really good questions and I help my clients ask good questions, too.
My new book, Soul Statements: A Love Coach’s Guide to Successful Communication, is a guide for accessing inner wisdom to increase the clarity and ease with which a person shows up for life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a father, love & relationship coach, author, a student of history and seeker of truth. I strive to be honest with myself about my own motivations.
As a young man I didn’t speak up for my needs and was too shy to talk to women. I shrank from my exuberance and certainty. My early intimate relationships were defined by poor patterns and I found myself in a sexless marriage made more difficult by my less-than-optimal relationship skills.
There have been big shakeups along the way. Three divorces. My children living in another state. An ocean surfing accident. A horse-riding fall. A cancer diagnosis. Each of these events informed my priorities and perspective. A shining life had eluded my grasp for too long. I had to decide that my past and my conditions would no longer define me.
There were innumerable acts of grace along the way and each breakdown eventually became a breakthrough. I hired a life coach as part of my deep study into understanding masculine-feminine dynamics. I chose this person as getting to where I wanted to be, in terms of intimate relationship, was territory that he’d already traversed.
I participated in numerous personal development courses in addition to being in extended love relationships with esteemed dakinis (female tantric practitioners). I consider myself to be incredibly fortunate, since formal training in the art of sacred loving is rare.
My shortcomings, failings and mistakes may have temporarily deflated me, but ultimately fueled me. As I became more willing to tell the truth to myself, my life improved. As I claimed my place in the world, greater inner and outer ease was the result. When I stopped practicing what wasn’t really me, everything changed. I went from needing desperately to work on myself to coaching dynamic people from all over the world.
My new book, Soul Statements – A Love Coach’s Guide To Successful Communication, will be released on September 19th.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d eat at Cafe Gratitude and True Foods. Definitely the Venice Market for a latte and Soho Beach House for cappuccino. Walk the Venice Canals. The Getty, for sure. La Brea tar pits is wild. Self-Realization Fellowship.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I cannot say enough good things about Human Awareness Institute (www.hai.org). My participation in their programs drastically changed how I see myself for the better. It also provided me foundational self-love access and improved my communication skills tremendously.
