We had the good fortune of connecting with Corina Irvin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Corina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Prior to starting my own business I worked in corporate real estate for over 10 years. I appreciated the training and experience I gained from that role but ultimately I wanted to do something more purpose driven. As a woman and a person of color, I noticed a gap in the marketplace for proper representation and attention given to this group by commercial real estate brokers. As such, I launched my company, Peninsula Commercial Real Estate Group, to address this gap. My clients get the benefit of my 10 + years in corporate real estate but with a more personal touch.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a commercial real estate broker and I help my clients lease or buy office, retail, or industrial space that aligns with their brand, budget, and future growth. I am most proud of starting my own company in 2019 after being in corporate real estate for over 10 years. I’m excited to bring my experience and expertise of working at two of the largest commercial real estate companies in the world to serve my clients, most of whom are female entrepreneurs or people of color, and provide them with the proper attention and representation that they deserve.

Being a commercial real estate broker is not an easy journey nor is it for the faint of heart. The competitive nature of the business coupled with me being a Filipina woman in an industry that is male-dominated and not very diverse made for an even tougher road but I am thankful for the experience because it helped me to realize that I wanted to start my own business and it made me a more confident and adaptable businesswoman. I learned that a growth mindset and positive attitude can take you anywhere plus I learned to not let fear or insecurity stop me from doing the things I want to do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A week in Los Angeles would be made up of lots of hiking, eating, and people watching. My favorite place in Los Angeles is Palos Verdes. It’s a hidden gem with some of the most beautiful scenery and hikes in the world. I would take my friend for lunch at Terranea or pick one of the delicious spots in Riviera Village in Redondo Beach. I would also take them to Manhattan Beach for some people watching and beach time. Another day of the week would be in the east side of town – hiking the Hollywood sign and lunch in Los Feliz. A trip to Los Angeles does require some shopping so I would take my friend to West Hollywood or Venice for some fun shopping and more people watching. To end the week, I would also show my friend Downtown Los Angeles and walk around the historic core to show off some of LA’s beautiful architecture.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this shoutout to all the strong female that surround me – my mom who worked multiple jobs to raise 4 kids as a single mother, my older sister who I always and continue to look up to, my younger sister who has the kindest heart and encourages me to have more empathy, my grandmother who helped raise me, and all the women that I choose to surround myself with who have a growth mindset and help me to be a better person, mother, friend, and businesswoman.
