We had the good fortune of connecting with Council and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Council, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think we can safely say, that without persistence, this band would have never made it anywhere. Whether it be teaching ourselves how to play instruments, learning how to write songs or learning to sing, persistence kept hope alive. We knew if we continued to work, no matter how much it felt like we weren’t progressing, we would eventually get to where we wanted to go. We have been told no more times than I can even count and told we should quit, we don’t have enough talent, our singer can’t sing on a professional level and on and on and on. But we don’t give up. We set our minds on the goal of being a band that releases music that is lyrically honest and musically emotional and melodic. Persistence has helped us not send one or two or five emails, but 100’s and 100’s. We kept at it till we eventually landed worldwide syncs like the Olympics, FIFA Mens and Women’s World Cup and American Idol etc.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Getting to where we are today was not easy. When you are not naturally good at something it takes a lot of work to get good. If your goal happens to be a professional band and compete with some of the biggest bands in the world then you have to work 1000 times harder just to have a chance. Thats what we did and continue to do every day as musicians. We are not blessed with natural talent or perfect pitch(I’m pretty sure we are borderline tone deaf) but we know we can out work everyone else. Hard work and persistence has got us to a point where we can finally release the music we had always dreamed about. What sets us apart is the honesty in the lyrics. We have lived our lyrics. Maybe some of it is metaphor but we aren’t writing songs with fluff lyrics or on subject matter we don’t know anything about. If the world could know anything about us it’s that we genuinely want to write music people relate to and hopefully be the soundtrack to people’s lives.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When friends come we definitely go to the Santa Monica Pier first. It’s a great place to have fun and enjoy the beautiful view of the ocean. They have a great amusement park there with an aquarium under the pier. The beach is also so peaceful. We would definitely want to go to the Laurel Tavern in Studio City for drinks and food after. They have some of the best burgers in the city and it’s always a great time. On another day we might hit up the Griffith Observatory. Not only are the views from there amazing but they have a very cool planetarium. Another place that is a must see is the Hollywood Walk of Fame and The TCL Chinese Theatre. I think everyone has heard of these two and it’s so cool to see friends faces when they see it in person. And being musicians, we definitely would hit up Sunset Boulevard. The strip has some of the most iconic music venues including the Rainbow Bar and The Roxy. The boulevard has so many places to grab a drink and enjoy the Hollywood history or enjoy the beautiful weather and views.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Being a band of brothers we definitely want to give our shoutout to our family. We have 2 supportive parents and 2 amazing sisters. No matter how crazy the story was that led us 3 to decide to start a band our family has always been there to support and cheer us on. We definitely learned persistence and work ethic growing up in our house and it has been the foundation of our band. Our parents have continued to pick us up even when we were at our lowest and provide us with the wisdom to realize it wasn’t the end but only the beginning. Our sisters have been so amazing at showering us with love and being some of our biggest cheerleaders. They know just when to intervene and to let us know regardless of where music takes us, how proud they are of us. I could go on and on about all the inspiration, love, drive, courage, wisdom, etc they all have provided but, I do want it known how grateful us 3 are to have them in our lives and shape us into the men we are today. Thank you Mom, Dad, Kim and Kelly.
