Meet Courtney Abbiati | Co-founder, Mediation Teacher, Medium & Reiki Practioner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Abbiati and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think of risk taking as actually following your heart. If one were to look at the path my life has taken thus far I guess you could say I’ve taken many risks, but it’s always felt more like I’m following my heart and to me I’m unable to live a life guided by anything other than my heart.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At my core I consider myself an artist. I went to Boston University’s acting conservatory and connecting to others through story telling is what drives me to wake up in the morning. Everything in my life is somehow filtered through that lens. The creation of my company, The Urban + The Mystic, is one more example of this, as an artist I think it is imperative to create touchstones in your life, ways to ground yourself, heal and motive you to continue to move in the direction of your dreams, in that I learned and fell in love with meditation, reiki, crystals, mediumship, basically anything and everything that is related to energy, so long story short once I became aware of these alternate ways of healing and being I wanted to create an incredibly accessible way to share them with people, hence The Urban + The Mystic was born. I come from the great state of New Jersey and while I’m a very proud Jersey Girl, we are not known as crystal loving, meditative folks, so my thought was if we could create a line of products that spoke to my family and the people I grew up around that could really make a difference. In my experience all that anyone is after is a genuine fine life, so why not help people attain that through a beautifully packaged box of goodies and use that box and its contents to show them just how easy it is to create a peaceful, healing or celebratory moment for themselves. I just wanted to create and offer a product that makes you feel good and to say that I’m grateful that we’ve done that is a vast understatement.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Where to start?! In no particular order: Dinner Spots – Chateau, Matsuhisa, Crossroads, The Nice Guy, Giorgio Baldi, Nic’s on Beverly, Pace, Sunset Tower, Nobu Malibu and South Beverly Drive Lunch – La Scala, In n Out, Bossa Nova, Cafe Gratitude, Locali, Taverna Tony’s and Hugo’s Breakfast – EarthBar, Hugo’s, Jon + Vinny’s and Nora Facials – Yonat Zilberg, Skin Style, Facile, J’ai Lone Workout – With my Trainer Alicia Todesco, also Hot 8 120 min class, hike Fryman and walk the streets in Laurel Canyon (it’s such a treasure trove) If it’s summer time we’d ABSOLUTELY go to Cinespia and Malibu is always a good idea
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my INCREDIBLE business partner, Sydney Holland. As I spoke before about risk, I think the same could be said about Syd, she takes risks, or follows her heart as I prefer to say, and she never takes no for an answer. There are so many wonderful qualities she has, but if I’m picking the top three, she is passionate, loyal and follows her heart at every turn. I could not ask for a better person to create a company with and she truly drives me to do my best and reach for higher goals every day. Love you Syd!
