We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“One day, you’ll leave this world behind. So live a life you will remember” from the song called “The Nights” by Avicii.

Growing up, I wanted to see Avicii perform live but I told myself that I would wait to see him perform when I was older. Then when he suddenly died in 2018, I never got the chance.

I now have this quote tattooed on my wrist. It’s my daily reminder to make every moment count, don’t let an opportunity pass you by because you think you’ll be able to do it in a week or a month, or a year. Do it now- just get out there and live.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Courtney Garcia and my work is soulful, real, and relatable.

Being a second-generation American with a father who is an immigrant from Central America, I feel a need to tell the story of immigrants and other groups of people that may be misunderstood for one reason or another. I also have an obsession with “moments in time” that will never happen again which fuels my love for street and documentary photography. I am fascinated by the world and its beauty, and my goal is to keep learning about life through interaction.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week to explore Utah, wow!!

Let’s start it off with a BANG. Skydiving in Moab for the most breathtaking view of your life. Then we’d hit the Moab Brewery and hike to Delicate Arch.

Hit Sand Hallow reservoir for blue skies, red rock, refreshing water, and some cliff jumping!

Can’t forget a hike to the hot springs up Diamond Fork Canyon in Spanish Fork and a picnic in a meadow nearby.

Then, to finish off a fun week, we can hit Whisky Street in SLC and ride scooters around downtown.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One of the biggest inspirations in my artwork is my dad, Carlos Garcia. Having a father who is an immigrant from Central America, I feel a need to tell the story of immigrants and other groups of people that may be misunderstood for one reason or another. Everyone has a story that deserved to be told.
