Meet Crissy | Founder & Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Crissy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Crissy, how do you think about risk?
I think of risk as a constant companion — not something to avoid, but something that has shaped every season of my life. From moving countries to leaving stable jobs, becoming a mother, and starting my own business, risk has been at the center of every major decision I’ve made.
For me, taking risks is a form of honesty. It’s saying, “I know I’m meant for more, and I trust myself enough to go after it.” I’m not someone who stays stuck in situations that don’t feel aligned. I’d rather face uncertainty than settle for a version of life that’s safe but unfulfilling.
Risk is how I grow, how I create, how I move forward. It’s not about recklessness — it’s about self-trust. Even if something doesn’t work out, I know I can bounce back. That belief has carried me through everything, and it’s the reason Medina Fine Pearls exists today.

What should our readers know about your business?
Medina Fine Pearls is a celebration of authenticity and individuality through genuine pearl jewelry and nature-inspired pieces. What sets us apart is our commitment to honoring the natural uniqueness of every pearl — and every person who wears them. Our designs range from dainty and elegant to bold and quirky. There’s truly a piece for every kind of unique soul.
What excites me most is seeing Medina Fine Pearls become part of people’s stories. When someone wears a piece and gets complimented — not just on the jewelry, but on their style — that’s the vision that lights me up.
This journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Learning how to build a website, manage inventory, handle logistics, and navigate all the technical parts of running a business was a steep learning curve. I didn’t come into this with a background in e-commerce or operations — just a vision and a lot of late nights spent researching, troubleshooting, and figuring things out one step at a time. But each challenge pushed me to grow and gave me a deeper appreciation for every part of the process.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that authenticity matters most. Medina Fine Pearls isn’t just about jewelry — it’s about embracing your story, imperfections and all, and wearing your confidence like a second skin. You are unique, beautiful, and deserve jewelry that reflects that truth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit, I’d keep it easy and fun—start with coffee runs to some of my favorite spots around Irvine (there are so many good ones), and mix in lowkey restaurants tucked into plazas you’d never expect.
We’d definitely spend a day at Crystal Cove—breakfast at The Beachcomber, then just hang out by the water all day. I’d take them to Laguna Beach too, for a little art, shopping, and the views. And of course, we’d swing by South Coast Plaza, because it’s a classic. Nothing too planned—just good food, the ocean, and time to catch up.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Big shout out to my incredible husband, Carl Medina for always having my back, rolling up his sleeves at every pop-up, and being one of my very first customers. To my amazing family, my steady rock, who step in to help whenever I need them and support me every step of the way. And to my friends, thank you for the encouragement, love, and for being some of my very first customers too — I’m so grateful for each of you.
