We had the good fortune of connecting with Crosby Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crosby, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After years of working at top NY and LA agencies, my talent wanted my name on the door.

The entertainment and beauty industries are fast moving, so the less people you have to CC & not trust, the faster you can land deals, which is what makes our worlds go round.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Perseverance and confidence have gotten me where I am today. I have a track record that proves success, which has come from both learning from my own and others mistakes. This also extends to knowing when to take calculated risks.

Climbing the agency ladder has led to a hefty resume of experience, I’ve worked at eight firms and represented more artists than any other agent I know. I started young when beauty representation was a niche and very much the ‘Wild West’ leading me to learn from true trailblazers like Cloutier, the first agency to rep hair stylists and makeup artists. In the thirty years of my career, the field has grown to be an undeniable empire worth billions.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It depends on which friend. For OG entertainment lovers, a martini at Musso and Frank, the night view of the Observatory, day view of the Hollywood sign, dinner at Yamashiro, brunch at the Polo Lounge, sunset drive along PCH, a concert at the Bowl if they are lucky enough to be in town for a great show or to see a classic film projected on the mausoleum of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

An art lover would get either LACMA / MOMA / GETTY Brentwood or the Broad, a collector seeking more would got with me to the Fahey / Klein gallery, Charlie James Gallery in Chinatown, KP Projects on La Brea, Culver City Arts District, the graffiti along the side a few abandoned skyscrapers downtown is impressive OR Luna Luna which is on my personal to-do list

Fave restaurants include Hippo in Highland Park, Kazu Nori DTLA, Union in Pasadena, Motherwolf in Hollywood, and I’ve become a repeat offender of Shirube in Santa Monica.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have represented Kristofer Buckle for over twenty years. We joke about it being the longest relationship that either of us has had, and it is true!

Kristofer was an agent like me back in the day, before subbing in for Laura Mercier and landing his first cover of Vogue. This allows him to understand my job, the temperament of the business and moreover the politics and to never take anything personally, which I need to be reminded at times!

Kristofer and I discuss everything with complete honestly and openly. You only hear when listening to those you trust and respect and we have that in each other. Proof is my just reading him my above answer…
