We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Loverro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, how do you think about risk?
Some of the best experiences in my life have come from taking risks. I consider myself to be a go-getter and a risk taker. Switching from the medical field to the entertainment industry was a huge risk for me, but I am so grateful that I made the transition. I am a firm believer in the saying, “you won’t know unless you try.” We are in control of our lives, and we are one decision or risk away from breaking the stagnation of a mundane routine. I never want to look back on my life and wish that I did something that I chose not to out of fear.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a professional actor with a focus on film, TV, and voiceover. I feel that my tenacity, honesty, authenticity, and resolve have set me apart from others. I am always in the process of self growth and overcoming my trauma and disabilities. It has been extremely challenging for me to rise out of poverty and to reach the professional level that I have in my career, despite the hand that I was dealt in life. I am able to overcome my challenges with hard work, therapy, and an outstanding support system. I am excited to add a service animal to my family and to start EMDR therapy. I am very proud of the fact that I continue to rise and defy the odds. I have learned not to take things personally and to remain focused on positive experiences, people, and energy that serves my goals. I want people to know that anything is possible, even if you are coming from a dark place. There is a bright light at the end of the tunnel.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I would set some time aside to camp around Joshua Tree National Park. We would camp there for a day or two because we absolutely love hiking, camping, and adventuring. Upon return, we would see a movie at the West Hollywood AMC Sunset 5. I love the WeHo AMC and LA is the best place to see a good movie. I would definitely take her to the Original Farmer’s Market to buy organic and fresh produce, mushrooms, and pasta to cook a delicious dinner. The next day, we would visit Santa Monica beach to swim and explore together. I would also like to show her around my favorite neighborhoods: Burbank, Glendale, and Beverly Hills. That would probably take a day or two of exploring. Chances are, we would stop into cafes, bistros, and dessert shops that looked appealing on our journey. Sometimes we like to be spontaneous! If we have more time on our trip, we could hike to The Hollywood Sign and take a stroll through Echo Park. We would likely spend most of our time outdoors.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes! I want to dedicate my Shoutout to my favorite actor and my role model, Lena Headey. Her performances, love for humanity, and positive energy helped me take the leap to pursue my dreams of being an actor in film and TV. Discovering her completely changed my life. My career is heavily inspired by her. I would even say that she saved my life in a way. She helped me realize that I am not defined by my trauma, disabilities, or mental health struggles. I can still be a successful performer and empowered woman; I need to embrace my imperfections and feel proud of who I am. I hope to do for others, what she did for me.
