We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Porter-Bazemore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystal, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by humanity. People inspire me. Our tenacity, determination, will; our ability to love and have compassion; our diversity, varied interests and connectedness to our planet and one another. There is a real story that lives inside each of us. A choice we have made that has pushed us forward and expanded our lives beyond what we thought we were capable of achieving or being. A love or self-love that has re-created or re-energized our souls. As a woman and artist, I’m interested in those stories. I am inspired by those people. And I believe those people are all of us.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Storyteller. I am most proud that I know and love who I am. Self-love has transformed every aspect of my life as a woman and an artist. I say “no” more than I say “yes.” That makes me proud and excited about the projects I do say yes to. There was a time when I felt that I needed to take every audition and every project for the sake of working. When I shifted my mind-set, doors began to open and dream opportunities were presented to me. I work now from my greater self. That’s where my yes comes from. It has taken me further than I could have imagined. Aside from the fact, that on first read of a script, the character chooses me. But that discussion is for another day. 🙂
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my BFF was visiting Studio City, we would absolutely go to Tuning Fork LA. My hubby, Tawan and I went there the night he proposed. It’s a local gem. Amazing food. Grounded people. All around good vibes. We for sure would hit up Studio City Farmer’s Market on Sunday while sipping Alfred’s coffee. Delic!! We would have to drop the top and cruise Mulholland Drive. Hit one of the trails at Fryman Canyon Park. If it’s summer, we’d check out movie night at Beeman Park with a bottle of Jaffurs (our favorite winery in Santa Barbara) Grenache. I definitely recommend a club membership to the winery. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this SHOUTOUT to my husband, Tawan Bazemore. He inspires me. Encourages me. Loves me even when I’m sour grapes. He sees me beyond how I see myself. On our wedding day, I told him that he was my greatest YES! That remains true today. I am nothing without God. My earthly & heavenly tribe; my Mother & Father, you are my wings. The Porter, Gibson, Boone & Bazemore families keep me laughing, steady and loved when the ground is stable and shaky. My souls smiles because of you! Nick Conti of the Pro Actor’s Studio for making me fly. And Toni Morrison, thank you for taking me off the page.
