We had the good fortune of connecting with Curt Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Curt, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my own business after deciding it was time to follow my dreams. It has always been a dream of mine to have my own Morning Show on a radio station or on Television and I thought it will be challenging to get one, especially in LA with limited experience For as long as I can remember, I have always loved radio and music. When I was growing up, I was on the radio all the time, calling and requesting my favorite songs and then making mix tapes. Eventually, I was doing funny bits with the DJ’s, and it was a lot of fun!
2020 was such a rough year for a lot of us and I suffered from anxiety and depression when I lost my job in property management. I was devastated, confused and lost with no idea what I would do next. I took some time off to get myself back together and I did so with the help of therapy and doing a podcast, The Curt Collins Show – Healing Together with a focus on Mental Health. It was going well and eventually I needed a reason to get out of bed every day, so I started doing a live morning podcast, Morning Would. After doing the show for a couple of months, I decided it was time to take it to the next level. I started my own company, Curt Collins Media Inc. and we then formed an online Radio Station, Daily Would Radio.
Coming out of 2020 I wanted to create a new happy place for the LGBTQ+ community plus our straight allies, with great music and fun shows that also deal with real issues that affect us. Music has been an important part of my life and I believe in the power of music to move, inspire and uplift people. I thought, if I could create a station that plays music and shows that uplifts, inspires and moves people; it could make a big difference in the world.
I spent a couple of months researching how to get everything started, trying out different services that help you to build an online radio station, get the licensing I needed, and I learned how to broadcast live on the radio. Then I tried a couple test apps because my vision was that we’d have an app that brings together a community while also allowing you to listen to our station with your phone wherever you are. After finding the right developers who could build an app that allowed my full vision to come true and getting all my licenses; Daily Would Radio was born on April 1st.
Currently we have two new shows with one more in development; my morning show Morning Would which is live weekdays at 8 AM PST and a talk show, Perfectly Said Period hosted by Cheryl Iwer on Sundays at 4 PM PST. We have received a lot of great feedback and are growing every day. We are hoping to keep riding the happy wave and spreading love and joy through great music and shows.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Our various shows are aimed at creating a safe space while talking about mental health, current events and much more!

I am so proud of my show Morning Would, formally a live podcast. Morning Would airs live weekdays at 8 A.M. P.T. playing music to get you motivated while also tackling current events and having fabulous guests.

I have loved radio my whole life, from the days of making my own mixed tapes to when I used to call into the radio stations request music, chat with the DJ’s and do silly little bits for them. I know the power of music and good radio shows, that is why I am creating a new LGBTQ+ our straight allies online radio station.

My vision for Curt Collins Media Inc., is that we grow to become a full fledged marketing and media company helping small businesses create an online presence through social media and with cross promotions from Daily Would Radio.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my goodness, if my best friend was visiting our first stop would be Weho! We would hit the Abbey and head down all of Santa Monica for the first night. The next morning waking up early to hike Runyon Canyon and then get a bite to eat in Hollywood. We would then head to Malibu and have dinner at Moonshadows and afterwards head out to Santa Monica at the Victorian. For Sunday Funday, we’d head back to WEHO and have brunch at Rocco’s or The Abbey, depending where we can get in easier and then head to Ginger Rodgers’ Beach and have a really fun beach day!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank my amazing husband Santosh and my Aunt Barb along with so many of my friends. Just to name a few, Ariel, Cheryl, April, Stacey, Janine, Andrew, Chelsea, Cortney, Derek, Charee and Corynne have gone above and beyond in helping me build out Daily Would Radio. They’ve helped me by giving their various opinions for the radio station, financial support and encouraging me all along the way!
