We had the good fortune of connecting with Cynthia Tizcareno and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cynthia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I first started my business back in 2017, it was not with the purpose of creating a business. I started by creating my artwork into physical products for fun, and when I saw there were people that actually like my artwork and purchasing it I was surprised. It made me so happy that people liked my artwork that it motivated me to continue on creating more and more products. I realized that I could really make a business based off my passion on creating cute artwork! I only recently rebranded my shop to a new name and look in March 2020. I’m learning everyday how to continue to improve and grow my business Meow Amor Creative.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I went to college to study graphic design to pursue a creative career. I learned a lot about design, color, & the software. I also took several online tutorials on Lynda.com and Skillshare.com to learn more about illustration, & pattern design. I started an instagram account for my art only, and started mini passion projects. I love setting my self goals to create something almost everyday. I’ve improved so much in my artwork over months because I practiced and worked hard to improve. I only created things I am interested in such as cute animals, especially cats! I was only really creating content for myself and to further my skills, so I didn’t have that pressure of not feeling like I was good enough. It all really happened with time, and slowly began getting people interested in my art! I wouldn’t say my journey was difficulty because I had the mentality from the start that it’s for fun, If I were to have started with the mentality that I have to be a success right away then I would have failed miserably because things take lots of time, success doesn’t happen over night. I only like creating artwork I can relate too and get excited about, if I can’t relate then I won’t do it because it would be missing something. Meow Amor Creative is all about cats, cute animals, and positivity. I love creating artwork that makes people feel happy!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First place I would take them is breakfast to Happy Days Cafe on Ventura Blvd. They have the most amazing churros and desserts! Then go to areas with cute shops in downtown Burbank and go to Neko Stop where they have so much cute kawaii and cat themed Items! I love going there !
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I love to shoutout my husband who also runs a small business Marlon Urrutia from Meugraphics who is so incredibly supportive of my business and helps out with so much! He creates humorous fun content, creates original pins, comics, and unique fanart. I love to shoutout to my amazing friends who also run small businesses: Riselle Trinanes, Christy Grajeda (Soy Christy), & Linn Sarmiento (cptnsenpai). We are all so supportive of each other’s business and it’s so great to have such a solid helpful community.
