We had the good fortune of connecting with D Dix and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi D, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Smooth Dynamic Productions LLC because I wanted a place where creatives can come together and create magic together. I always have loved working with other creatives on projects and just seeing how we can combine our minds and talents together and make such beautiful art. I want my business to help allow people to see that art has many different faces and that so many people don’t even know that deep down they are a creative themselves.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What’s sets me apart from others is that I’m just me. I know that may sound cliche but I feel that when you just show up as your authentic self it allows you to really be able to put your whole self into your art. This allows me to be able to capture moments.

I’m very excited for these new projects I am working on especially this documentary. I’ve been able to be apart of this great team of women and we have be able to come together and capture so many peoples stories of Hoop earrings. Working on this project has allowed me to look at hoop earrings in a whole new way and I hope that when people watch this documentary they will have a new outlook as well. We’ve been able to capture stories in NY and LA and are making our way around to different places so people can tell their hoops story. This project has allowed me to explore my cinemaphotography gift more, while also working with other amazing creatives capturing magic.

I have had to work hard to get where I am and I’m still not where I want to be. I’m grateful that I have been able to experience and have the opportunities that I have been blessed with. I rely a lot on my faith to get me through as well the people around me who have been my support system.

I want people to know that my brand is a place where you can be you, a place where I am going to show up as me and I want you to feel comfortable to be your authentic self too.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well first I would have to take them to get some Asian bbq at this place called Musu for some all you can eat. After dinner we would go to park street and bar hop. For breakfast there’s nothing like some good diner food, I would have to take them to a few of my favorites such as Newest Lunch, Blue Ribbon, and Tops Diner. For pizza Marinos of course and a place to just chill out I love to hang out at the Erie Canal locks. I would have to include a road trip to somewhere close like Massachusetts or maybe Vermont.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am so grateful for the people in my life who have supported me in my journey. I especially want to thank my Mom and my Aunt Gina, I know that they are still supporting my journey as my angels.
