We had the good fortune of connecting with Daisy Murray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daisy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking has always been something I’ve danced around, but when it’s comes to working in the art field, it’s something that most artists have to do to get their career started. I had to decide one day to jump fully into it; no side jobs and no other distractions. It was a huge risk financially to fully trust my art to support me. In the long run, I think it was the right decision. I might struggle sometimes but I get to do something that I love everyday, and that’s what is most important.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For a long time as a teenager I was primarily creating hyper realistic portraits, but I felt that I was just doing what was considered ‘good artwork’ by my peers. I realized I had to set my art apart from all the amazing fine artists and illustrators out there. I love to play with portraiture and mixed media while also combining an array of styles. Finding your own style is super difficult and usually just has to happen organically. I’m still learning everyday but I hope that I can bring something more to the table.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Even though I live in Los Angeles, I consider NYC home. My ideal week in NY would consist of going to underground concerts, Chelsea Market, and of coarse making a pit stop at Halal Guys. I love all the small shops in Greenwich village and having coffee in Washington Square park. There is a million things to do in NY it’s hard to pick favorites, but a must is Beetle House (a Tim Burton themed bar).

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout all my friends for their amazing support through it all. They have been my cheerleaders through everything and being in the art field themselves, they understand the struggle of trying to ‘make it’. So shoutout to my amazing best friends Kira and Rosie for being my rock and helping me through this career.
