Meet Dale Ting | Lifestyle entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dale Ting and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dale, how do you think about risk?
In poker, there’s a strategy called the semi-bluff. You have decent hand, but there’s a chance you’ll draw into a big winning hand, so you bet like you have the big hand because worst case, you have the decent hand. It’s not a full on bluff where you don’t have anything so you bet big hoping everyone folds. For example, when deciding to leave my full time corporate job, my “decent hand” was a part time contractor/consultant role with a smaller company while my “draw” hand was working on my own business. Taking the analogy further, I could even say my decent hand was going back and getting another job even if life called my semi-bluff.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have three active brands, and I would say the main differentiator of all three is I want to genuinely be helpful to people. I don’t like it when products or brands that oversell or overpromise.
The Bucko cleaner isn’t “green” or “derived from plants” but it actually works and doesn’t contain bleach or strong acids.
PandaBoard straws and utensils actually are derived from plants, but they also work (they don’t dissolve in your drink) and are home compostable, unlike others that say “compostable” but require industrial ovens.
Confidence Pool Picks doesn’t claim to have all the picks right, but it does provide information to make office pools fun for everyone.
We just want stuff to actually work and be open about what it can and can’t do. One of our values is humble greatness. Our role model is Giannis Antetokounmpo (I’m a Milwaukee Bucks fan), who is an NBA champion and MVP but yet is humble enough to give a little kid a hug because she drew a picture for him.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Coming from the midwest, SoCal has so much density on stuff to do! I would start with the food. Little Saigon for Pho, Little Tokyo for sushi, K-town for Korean short rib, street tacos, pink box donuts, and some fine dining in the Arts district. Definitely hit up a few of the beach towns, from the big ones like Santa Monica to the smaller ones like Oceanside. Have to take a trip to Disneyland of course! No trip would be complete without a studio tour and a show filming in Hollywood. One thing I’d do different than most people is to incorporate nap time each day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shoutout to ACE NextGen, a non-profit organization that helps AAPI entrepreneurs form authentic relationships. Entrepreneurship can be a lonely road at times, and having this community of not only great entrepreneurs but great people has been huge for me.
