We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcus Stricklin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marcus, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue a creative career because when I was younger, my parents told me the arts didn’t pay bills. So I went to business school, toiled away at a boring desk job for a decade and hated nearly every nanosecond of it. I wanted to do something that freed my brain to allow me to feel and be like me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I watch tv and read scripts all day. I treat my day like a business. I write, and then research scripts to help with examples of something I myself am trying to write. If there’s one lesson I can pass on, just keep going. Work harder and it will pay off. Always strive to get better.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a beach person, so anyone that visits, better bring some flip flops and let’s head to any beach we can throw a towel on. And because I love it so much, let’s go to Griffith Park also.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, Natasha. She seriously reads every little thing I write. She’s not a writer or creator but always reads and gives feedback to help me make my work into the best it can be before I seek notes from my manager.
