Meet Dale Voelker | Art Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dale Voelker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dale, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started working for myself after I was laid off from an art director job for a music retailer. Funny enough, they called me the next day to hire me for some design projects. To be honest I didn’t really think about too much, it just sort of happened.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My design business currently focuses on the music business, creating packaging for vinyl and cd projects. I have created projects for Sting, Rufus Wainwright, Jill Scott, John Fogerty, Cheap Trick and others. Sometimes that involves working directly with the artist and trying different ideas and sometimes coming up with ideas on my own. The most important thing I have learned is remember this is a business, and to keep deadlines and try and be someone clients enjoy working with and can count on.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
1. The Getty Villa 2. Hike in Griffith Park
2. Concert at the Greek Theatre
3. Theodore Payne Foundation
4. Amoeba Hollywood
5. Dodger Stadium

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Cal State Northridge definitely prepared me for working as a designer and art director. I never see design and art as two different things, they work together and work off each other.
