We had the good fortune of connecting with Dallas Malloy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dallas, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I used to think of balance as an abstract concept but didn’t actively practice it. I have learned although balance is a fluid ever evolving idea, it is necessary and I can ultimately be even more productive if I stay in tune with the natural rhythm of nature. There has to be a balance of work, play and rest; and that will be different at different times.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Creativity has taken many forms in my life–in writing, composing, piano, acting … and combining these forms. Recently I’ve been compelled toward songwriting, and written about 17 songs in the last couple years. The biggest challenge is always putting my heart and soul out there, knowing it may get trampled, ignored or at least misunderstood. But those who get it, get it, and it’s for them. It’s never been easy. My brand is love. The biggest continuous lesson is learning to be independent of the good opinion of others–it can’t be about them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Places that are quiet and beautiful, gardens, hills, in nature … animal sanctuaries. Crumbs and Whiskers Cat Cafe, Kitten Rescue Sanctuary, Gentle Barn, Wolf Mountain Sanctuary, Cat House on the Kings, Milo’s Sanctuary, Sante D’Or, and there are so many others I haven’t had a chance to visit yet. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All the animals and nature teach me everything.
