Meet Damaris Grace | Makeup Artist/Smile Maker/Creative

We had the good fortune of connecting with Damaris Grace and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Damaris Grace, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My mom told me at a young age to pick something i love, something i never get tired of and make it my career. So to me when i discovered my love for makeup artistry it seemed only right to turn my passion to a business. When you love what you do even when its not easy thats when you know to turn it into something more, something that can support your spirit and your livelihood.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is the kind that has people leaving my chair feeling more confident or beautiful or powerful. Whats special to me about it is that whether or not i’m doing a client or a model for a photoshoot, I am creating and using the face as my canvas. I accentuate features like clothes can when creating silhouettes on the body. I love it because through each step of adding each detail I give a person a new look. That to me is beautiful.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I was raised in the DMV and currently attend Howard University in DC so there are plenty of spots I’m familiar with. My favorite spots at the moment are the Wharf, the Kennedy Center, and my friends rooftop near the Union Market. I just love places that are really scenic especially to go at night. The best conversations happen while looking at the sky or the water.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout God, my parents, my best friend, my grade school teachers, my college friends, Howard University ELITE, and myself. I really want to thank everyone i’ve ever met because each interaction taught me something and most people i’ve met made me feel loved, special, and encouraged.
