Meet Dan Ubick | Music Producer & DJ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dan Ubick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dan, what’s your definition for success?
I define success as being surrounded by people you admire, respect and love, being able to pay your bills and being able to enjoy the things that bring you happiness.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Dan Ubick, I am a music producer, musician, DJ and record collector from here in Los Angeles. Check out www.DanUbeProductions.com for a list of some of the things I’ve done over the years if you like. My music has been used in TV, films and gaming but this year I helped my friend Magnus Fiennes produce a film score which was a thrill and something I’ve been interested in doing forever (so much fun!!). You ask if doing what I do and getting where I am today is easy and the short answer is, no, I’m not sure it ever is with art. It can be fun and thrilling but there are always challenges with every new scenario, and unexpected things can pop up so getting the final product across the finish line is always something to celebrate. That being said, I love writing and recording music whether it be for a film score, a single or a full album. I just love collaborating with open, new, talented people and making fresh art to inspire and uplift (hopefully!).

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles has soooo much to offer because we are a true melting pot of amazing cultures and people. As a music fanatic I take friends from out of town over to Goldline Bar in Highland Park that my friend Chris Manak (aka Peanut Butter Wolf who started Stones Throw Records) owns because they have different DJ’s from all over sharing music from every genre from their own collections and from Wolf’s incredible collection there at the bar. For live music I still love the Whiskey-A-Go-Go on Sunset just for it’s historic relevance. Everyone from The Doors, Love, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin have graced that stage. We also have The El Rey, The Wiltern, The Lodge Room, The Hollywood Bowl and many more. However, my favorite thing about our City Of Angels is the food (killer Ethiopian on Faifax, Mexican food on the Eastside, amazing Japanese and Thai food, Cuban food, Mediterranean, etc., etc. ) and our state parks, mountains and beaches.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to send a shout out to Eothen “Egon” Alapatt who has had my back since I first started producing music. Thanks E!
