We had the good fortune of connecting with Dana Shermister and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dana, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Always keep going, it’s only going to end when you stop trying.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Since I remember myself I dance. I think what sets me apart from other is me being fully myself when I dance. Im not trying to be anyone else or try too hard to beat anyone. Im doing me. It was a long journey to get where I am today and I still feel im just in the beginning of my journey. I had to give up on my life back home, in Israel and start a new life in LA. It wasn’t easy at all but I know its gonna get me where I want to be. Every day is a battle between you and yourself and ti be able to pick yourself up and be the best you can be every day, thats what makes me be where I am today. I’ve learned that its all in our head, we are our worst enemy, and once we realize that the sky is the limit. Today i can say that i am a professional dancer living in LA. I also teach dance around LA, which fills my heart so much. I teach heels classes at the best studios out here and get to know people from all around the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot in LA would have to be Malibu. Something about the calmness and the beach with that kick of coolness just makes me feel so special. I love the vibe, the people, the view. Theres a really good greek restaurant I love to go when Im there called “Taverna Tony” but i might be spoiled because im greek 🙂 so it makes me feel like home. Theres a lot of cool area you can hangout there or just get a towel sit on the beach and watch the sunset. It makes you realize the world is so beautiful and its always gonna work out at the end of the day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wanna give a credit to Millennium dance complex for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to teach for the first time in LA. I also wanna thank to Eden Shabtai for always helping and guiding me through every step. And the last thank I wanna dedicate for Aisha Francis for seeing me and pushing me beyond my limits.
