We had the good fortune of connecting with Dani King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dani, what inspires you?
I’m mostly inspired by people who create art that really feels sincere and authentic. Past and present. A lot of the musicians I’ve met in L.A. have been some of my biggest musical inspirations in the recent years. I also find myself motivated to write more music after going to a live show so I try to get out to a local show as often as I can.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m excited to connect with more female, non binary, queer artists this year for collaboration. Growing up I often felt like one of few women in the music spaces i experienced. Even in college I was one of maybe 2 females in my graduating class for composition. I’ve been collaborating a lot more this past year so I have some upcoming releases I’m excited for. One of my biggest goals is to connect with more female directors and producers so I can score more female lead film projects. I think when it comes to my future I love producing/songwriting just as much as I love scoring films so I hope to find a way to merge the two more this year.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Probably have to do a beach day in Santa Monica or Malibu. I’d have to show them Bay Cities Deli for the bomb sandwiches and a some roller blading on the bike path to watch the sunset. Then have to do a thrifting day and hit up all the goodwills in the valley or Burbank. I’d also want to take them to a live show, so maybe go to Sam First, Checker Hall, or the York for some live jazz. There are tons of good jazz venues around Highland Park. Maybe a day visiting the flower district and Primo’s Antojitos Mexicanos taco truck nearby to end the trip.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to dedicate this to my dad. He was my first musical influence and inspiration. An electrician by day and hip hop producer by night. He was an incredible musician and I wish I’d told him that before he passed away. I’ll always feel so lucky I had the privilege of being surrounded by music and musicians growing up thanks to him.
