We had the good fortune of connecting with Etsegenet Tadesse and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Etsegenet, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic/creative career because that’s where my heart was since I was a very young girl. Throughout the years I kept on jumping from one artistic career to another one; so eventually I knew for sure that my calling was in the creative area.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a musician, recording artist, and actress. I play multiple instruments focusing more on guitar (I studied guitar performance) I write and sing a lot. I am very excited about my first instrumental EP which I’ve been working on for a while now and will be released this year. I have released two albums and many singles as a singer/songwriter before but never instrumental so I can say I’m proud and excited about that. To get where I’m at now was never easy; in fact it was very hard. Especially leaving my family & friends and move to a country far from what I know, was very difficult but through God’s help, prayer, and determination, I can say I was able to overcome the challenges I had faced. The lessons I learned along the way is to be patient with myself, take the days (specially the challenging days) one step at a time, and to have faith. I want the world to know about my upcoming EP, it’s a special one 🙂 I wrote all the music using the Traditinal Ethiopian Tonalities (Scale) mixed with western music. It’s very exciting! I hope and pray it’ll be an uplifting sound to whoever listens to it. Thank you so much for taking time to read my story!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love hiking so I’ll definitely take them to hike the Runyon Canyon. Take them to little Ethiopia to show them what my home resemble in LA and eat some Ethiopian food. Will take them to Hollywood walk of fame and eat some tacos from taco tracks. Will drive the pacific coast Hyw to Malibu beach. Since we’ll have a week, will take them to Manhattan & Santa Monica Beach on the other days. Definitely go to the grove and eat some Brazilian food. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give God my ultimate praise for guiding me through my journey. I thank my family for allowing me to pursue my dreams without pressuring me to be something that I am not, and my husband Kibrom Birhane for inspiring me in so many ways.
