We had the good fortune of connecting with Danicca Prom and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danicca, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started Glow Beaute for a few different reasons. The first reason why I started Glow Beaute is because I was burnt out and unfulfilled from my corporate job. I wanted the ability to control my own schedule so I could spend more time with my loved ones, be my own boss and create unlimited earning potential. I was tired and frustrated of not being able to spend time with the people I cared about because I was always working, exhausted from work and preparing for another demanding work week. The second reason was that I always knew deep down that I wanted to serve others. It took me a while to realize I could serve others through something I absolutely enjoyed, which was beauty. Lastly, I am a child domestic violence survivor and feel very strongly about creating a place where women could get the much needed self care they deserve, feel inspired and empowered. All of my life experiences, opportunities and obstacles have not only made me who I am today, but have also created the foundation for Glow Beaute.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What makes Glow Beaute unique is that our goal is to provide a space where women can feel beautiful inside & out, get the much needed self care they deserve and feel empowered to do anything they set their mind to no matter what they’ve been through in life. Whether you are here with us at our salon for an intimate, relaxing treatment, strengthening your skills as a beauty professional or connecting with us through social media, we believe that life is too short to be anything but happy. You have the ability to create the life of your dreams; love hard & live passionately. When it comes to our beauty business training programs, such as our Body Sculpting Training course, Entrepreneur Growth Guide course and Saline Tattoo Removal course, they were designed to share the lessons learned from 10 years in a corporate healthcare environment and running my own business so you don’t have to figure out beauty entrepreneurship alone.

It’s hard for me to choose one specific life moment that has helped me get to where I am today business-wise. One significant moment in my life that shaped me into who I am is that I am a child domestic violence survivor. It took me a while to realize that the childhood I experienced was not normal. When I was 5 years old my parents got into a terrible fight that was the last straw before they divorced. My dad was handcuffed right in front of me and incarcerated for the first time. When I was 20 my dad was incarcerated for the second time. This time as a young adult was much harder. I’ll never forget the day I found out he was incarcerated when I received a message on Facebook from an old friend. I’ll also never forget the many weekends I spent visiting him in jail in between going to college full time, an internship and 2 part time jobs. I was never really prepared for the obstacles that came when my dad was released from jail. I picked him up at greyhound station, looked up the nearest motel I could find that night & checked him in for a weekend with the few hundred dollars I had as a college student. I tried to support my dad as best as I could with the little money I earned as a college student & free time I had. It took me years to truly heal from such a challenging moment in my life, learn to love & value myself and grow into the person I am today. Every obstacle I faced was actually a blessing in disguise that has prepared me for where I am today and where I will be in the future.

Against all odds, as a child domestic violence survivor and the daughter of an incarcerated parent, I was still able to earn a college degree, have healthy loving relationships with others and myself, start my own business and achieve anything I set my mind to. You can achieve anything you set your mind to and create the life of your dreams too no matter what you’ve been through in life. Starting my own business and running it, is one of the most challenging yet rewarding things I have ever done in my life. I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to wake up everyday doing something I truly enjoy. I hope that I can help others follow their dreams as well and live a fulfilling life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, we would have to dine at two of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles for lunch and dinner, Otium and Republique. I would highly recommend Republique for brunch so you can enjoy their beautiful interior, savory brunch entrees, pastries and drinks. As for Otium, I would recommend coming here for dinner so you enjoy the modern ambience, cocktails, delicious entrees and view into their open kitchen. For fun things to do, you should check out The Broad Museum for a fun day of contemporary art and shopping at The Grove. If you love history and architecture, you must book a walking tour with LA Walking Tours. As someone who has lived in Southern California my whole life, I never realized how little I knew about Los Angeles until I went on a walking tour with LA Walking tours and learned so much about history about the beautiful historic buildings in Los Angeles. For drinks with a view of Los Angeles, you have to check out Perch or Spire 73 which is located inside of the InterContinental hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my mom and husband who have always been my biggest supporters. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without their unconditional love and support. My mom’s strength and hard work is what allowed me to have a better life. Her perseverance and kindness through life’s obstacles is what taught me to be kind and get right back up no matter what life throws at you. As for my husband he has always been my rock, my number one fan and biggest supporter. He has always believed in me, supported my hopes and dreams and has always made doing challenging things feel much easier to tackle because we tackle them as a team. Everything I do and work towards is so I can provide a better life for them.
