We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Herrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Hi! I’m Daniel Herrera, an illustrator and graphic designer from the best place in the world: Ciudad Satélite. During my teenage years I discovered alternative and heavy music through my dad and friends in school and the local scene was pretty awesome there. Then, my passion for music found my passion for drawing and naturally became the thing I love doing now, making posters and some other stuff or bands I love!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hi, Im Dany, an illustrator and graphic designer from Mexico City. Since I was a little kid I’ve been drawing and naturally I studied Graphic Design. Music is one of my greatest passions so when I discovered Pearl Jam I felt amazed to see the magnificent posters they have and I wanted to do that as well!
For 4 years I have been working on my own illustration studio, Dannnprints, making artworks, posters and merch for bands in Mexico and some others like Greta Van Fleet, Black Pumas, Wilco, Eric Church, Hello Seahorse, The Joy Formidable and many, many more. I have enjoyed the ride a lot!
Being an artist in Mexico ain’t easy, illustration is my second job since I work in the advertising industry and it requieres a lot of effort, passion and consistency to have a successful career, I hope someday I can make something bigger and better that can improve the conditions for me and other illustrators.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m from the best city in the world: Ciudad Satélite, in the northern part of Mexico City, so I think visiting Torres de Satélite is a great idea to begin with. Later, I think we can go to Mexico City and explore all the neighborhoods the city has to offer, like La Roma, Condesa, the Downtown, there are a lot of great places to visit, drink and eat! Of course, I would also take my friend to some of the archeological areas that tell Mexico’s story. Damn, my country sure has a lot to offer!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank and dedicate this to my friend Mario Bustamante, bass player and founder of Fractal, a talent agency dedicated to organize shows and manage bands from Mexico, pushing them to achieve great things and helping them to do it the best way possible. He and I have worked for some years now and I’ll be forever grateful for all his support and trust!
