We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The Success of our brand is Really quite simple: Quality, passion and tradition. When our clients taste our tortillas, We want them to taste the pride, taste the authenticity and more importantly taste the history. We pride ourselves in using the highest quality ingredients and rely on years upon years of family tradition to ensure the best tasting tortillas possible. When our clients buy our tortillas, we want them to feel a part of our family. We want them to feel like there right there with us making the tortillas from scratch so they can enjoy them in a way no other brand can offer. Because when you buy from us, your family as you welcome us into your business and home. That’s what makes us different. That’s what makes us successful.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a family owned business, proudly making the best tortillas in Los Angeles since 2007. As mentioned above, what we feel makes us different and sets up apart from the rest is the quality, passion and tradition that we put into our products. Not only that but we feel every client that busy from us is more than just a client but is a part of our family because without them we wouldn’t be here. It’s because of that special kind of relationship that we have with our clients that we have been able to grow tremendously to the point we have to build another new factory.  This new factory will allow us  extend our reach outside of LA  while at the same time exceeding the expectations of our current market.

I got to the place where i am at by catering to my client’s needs in quality and service. Nothing in life worth having comes easy, so I work hard with my team to ensure we make smart decisions and moves that will help us out preform everyone in the industry. I take nothing for granted and know we are blessed. I just have to look at my father and uncle for motivation and determination. Never forgetting our humble beginning. Two immigrants brothers coming together after getting fired from the same job on the same day 4 hours apart. Not knowing how they’d provide for their family. Taking a chance and putting what little they had to start their own business.  I remember when they first started la jolla tortilleria, They both looked at me, gave me a packet of tortilla and told me ” this here is your future and your family future.” That was 13 years ago. During these 13 years I learned about the industry as much as I could from my family. The path was for me to go to college and get a degree to then one day run the business. However, life has a way of changing things without your permission. My college career was cut short when my uncle became ill. He had been battling with health issues all his life. One year he gave us a scare and that is when my dad and i knew it was time for me to join la jolla 100% to help ease the workload on everyone and help this company grow to be LA’s best known Tortillerias.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend comes I would love to show him around la with a food tour. A week full of food and Los Angeles culture.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Throughout my life I’ve had many support and mentorships, great friends who have had my back and gave me life lessons and words to carry on. friends like Ralph, Phil and a few others but ultimately my father and uncle (daniel and carlos) deserve the most credit. They were amazing role models and taught me everything I know. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am. shout out to all my support system. and clients. we are all family.
