We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniela Moreno and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniela, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an creative career because that was what I found myself giving energy to when I didn’t have to. If I had time to myself, I loved taking photos and organizing them in a cohesive way that made me feel good. Organically, I started a career of creating content for brands which ultimately led me to starting my own content studio, MOE studio.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MOE studio is a lifestyle content photo + event studio in Miami,FL. There’s a lot of ways in which this concept is not only new to Miami, but in general. We are one studio space with four home-inspired sets and are all separated by curtains which allows a community of creatives to all shoot at once. We have an a-la carte menu where people can choose their room(s) of choice to shoot at and then “add on” time if they’d like to use any other rooms. It’s a very simple, to- the point business concept that I’ve never seen before. It’s affordable, easy and convenient for people to rent and shoot their content.
I’m most proud of the business model and how it all came together logistically and how smooth it’s been since we launched. I’m excited to add more services to our studio soon as we’re getting ready to launch “Shot by MOE” which will be a creative content creation service where brands can send us their products and we do all the content. My background is content creation, so I’m excited to keep sharpening that skill.
It took me almost two years to start, build and launch MOE. Was it easy? Hell no. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my entire life, by far. The challenges were daily and extremely rough for me to get through. The rollercoaster you go through as a business owner is incomparable as it’s a huge financial risk. Learning to separate my emotions with my business has been the only way I’ve been able to overcome the challenges. At the end of the day, if the business fails, my health is a priority and work always has to come second to my well-being.
Some lessons I’ve learned the way is that it’s so important to ask for help when needed. There’s no shame in saying, “I have no idea how to do this, please help me”, from people who know more than I do. I did this constantly and still lean on my studio director daily for advice.
I would love for the world to know that the reason I started MOE is purely for the passion of creating a space for people to take their creative visions to another level. I want to build a community of creatives that love what they do for a living and that has always been my greatest goal.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The beach during the day, morning side farmers market on saturdays, la natural, mandolin, bunbury or KYU for dinner. Sana Skin Studio for a facial, MOE studio for some shopping and cute photos. For night, drinks at DANTE or Soho House. For a little art, I would go to Rubell Museum.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents! They have allowed me to make my own life decisions and take control of my dreams. It hasn’t always been easy but knowing you have your family’s support helps a lot when being an entrepreneur.
