We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophia Knapp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophia, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
This is my favorite quote from Terence McKenna: “Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering it’s a feather bed.”
In my life, not every landing has been feather soft, but I don’t regret the risks I have taken. Action towards a big-picture vision helps one to feel purposeful in the swirl of emotions and events that fill our days. This brings to mind another one of my favorite quotes: “Action is the antidote to despair.” by Joan Baez

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an artist and mystic. Sharing my experiences through music and other forms of expression, as well as hearing about the experiences of others lights me up. I’m known as a singer songwriter under my given name, and as a clairvoyant Tarot reader and teacher. I call myself a Tarot star since Tarot reader feels limiting. I’m most proud of having been able to arrange my life so that family and health come first. The cultural climate encourages burnout and profit over sustainability, so this is no small feat. I’m excited for my upcoming concert April 12th at Zebulon. It’s my first show in a long time, and I’m looking forward to that electricity of being on stage. On the esoteric front, I’m learning how to read runes, which fascinates me.
My path has not been easy, but wouldn’t easy be boring? I’m always uncomfortable, learning and evolving in a world that moves so fast. I have arrived where I am today professionally due to the support of so many people, as well as my genuine care for others and attention to detail. I want everyone to know that they are not only enough, they are more than enough. And that the potential for healing is eternal.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Here is a list: :-} 1. Solar Return – my favorite family-run biz in the neighborhood. They make vegan cakes and treats that are colorful works of art. Imagine a truffle in the shape of a fairytale psychedelic mushroom house.
2. Point Dume in Malibu – epic.
3. Desperate Los Angeles / Vamp – the best boutique featuring independent female designers. Impeccably stylish and unique.
4. Venice Beach – legendary people-watching.
5. Wi Spa – co-ed Korean spa. Highlights include the Clay sauna room and restaurant.
6. Lacma, Moca, Norton Simon Museum, The Broad – so many great museums to choose from.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I love this! I’m eternally grateful for my collaborators. They keep me inspired and feeling connected. I couldn’t possibly name just one, so here are a handful of people and places currently in the mix: Oliver Roman, Olivia Wyatt, Shane McCauley, Marissa Nadler, Dungen, Zebulon, Lars Fredrik Swahn, Stephanie Nicole Smith, Cicci Cassina, and DEN Meditation.
