We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniela Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniela, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Neems was born out of a lifelong journey of frustration with finding jeans that properly fit my body in a way that made me feel confident. As early as I can remember, I would go to the mall, try on dozens of jeans, and be so incredibly disappointed and confused when not one pair fit right; my biggest issue was that if jeans fit OK in my hips, they would gape annoyingly at the waist, or they weren’t long enough, or they would stretch out a ton after only one wear. This reoccurring experience of never finding jeans that genuinely left me feeling good in my body made me give up wearing jeans for a few years, and eventually a seed was planted in my head to design jeans that were custom-made to fit people’s bodies.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Neems Jeans, is an LA-based custom denim brand that designs jeans to your unique body for a perfect fit. We use leading digital body scanning technology to capture your unique measurements, use those measurements to design your jeans on our digital pattern-making software, and deliver your perfectly-fitting jeans to your doorstep within 2-3 weeks.

Something that sets us apart from other denim brands is that we make our jeans to fit people’s bodies, not the other way around. The denim industry is notorious for being extremely size-exclusive; not only do most denim brands not carry beyond a size 32 or size 34, but also jeans are traditionally designed for a very specific body type that is not representative of the average individual. This leads to so much frustration and body image issues among folks who don’t fit into this unrealistic body standard. I’m extremely proud of the fact that Neems is revolutionizing the toxic standards within the denim industry by designing jeans for all body types and sizes (we have no size limits!) so that everyone can feel empowered and confident in their jeans.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is such a fun question! I’m a big hiker, so each morning I would take my friend to different hikes around LA so that they can experience the beautiful scenic views. Some of my favorite hikes around LA are in Fryman Canyon, Runyon Canyon, and Griffith Park trails. Some great food spots that I’d take my friend to are Howlin’ Rays (best fried chicken ever!), Mizlala, Pizzeria Sei, The Rose Venice, and Elephante, just to name a few. For the best coffee, we’d definitely hit up Verve Coffee or Il Caffe in DTLA. Other fun itinerary items would be a day trip to Point Dume in Malibu, a day trip to Big Bear, thrifting in Silver Lake, and walking around Westfield Century City Mall!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to all of the other incredible women entrepreneurs that are out here working every day to build their businesses from nothing but their own passion and discipline. I would also love to thank my incredible partner, Andre, for being my biggest supporter in this journey and for always reminding me to take a mental health break.
