We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Jensen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danielle, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I used to put work first and now over time I put myself first. I only come in when I have clients, I take vacations with my wife, I won’t come in on my days off. Creating heathy boundaries are key to a successful career.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to create a safe space for my clients to have a voice. Let me know how they are feeling through the transformation. I don’t want it to be “well it’s just hair” or “it will grow out”. I want it to be an experience that they are comfortable and feel amazing in their new reflection.

As far as specialty I really don’t like using that word because I feel like we are always learning. But people usually reach out to me for my straight razor cuts. It took ALOT of cuts and scars on my hands to get me comfortable with my tool. Now it’s like an extension of my hand. I remember when I first started some days I would be wearing gloves on both hands to finish a cut. But I am so grateful to have done that! It’s not that big of a deal once you get used to it .

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Okay Long Beach is one of my favorite cities obviously. First we would take my dog for a walk down the boardwalk, then have breakfast at The Breakfast Bar, then we would scoot over to retro row for some vintage shopping, then we would scoot over to Claire’s at the museum and grab lunch, then go pick up my dog (and some drinks) head over to Rosie’s Dog Beach for cute dogs and rays, then we would go home for a power nap, then hit up Belmont Shore for dinner at Saint and Second! Hope you had fun!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Big shoutouts to Sarah Contey who I assisted in Austin. Kate Gibson for always being there for me. Joy la May for helping transition into a new salon and create healthy boundaries. Alex Hurt for giving me a safe space to create. And of course how can I forget the most important person, my wife Janet who supports me no matter what! I love you ❤️
