We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Moses and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danielle, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I believe that engaging with art in its myriad forms is essential for humans to truly thrive. From collecting prints, to attending live performances, to the simple acts of playing music on your drive or practicing a hobby craft while you wind down at the end of the day, art is an essential part of our lives. And it plays a role in every aspect of our lives, down to the simplest and most mundane things we barely pay attention to. I also believe in positively contributing to society however I can, and for me that means making art. I decided to pursue a career as both a visual artist and actor because I love taking what is in someone’s head and making it a reality. I get so much joy from taking the nebulous concept in a client’s head and realizing it on paper for them to share. I love collaborating with a cast and crew to conjure a production from the words in a script. It all sounds very flowery, but at the heart of it is the desire to build connections and community with everyone I meet.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been extremely lucky in the variety of jobs I’ve held over the years. Aside from the standard survival jobs (retail, food service, etc), I have held positions like Medieval Princess, Wizard, and Assistant Dog Trainer. I’ve always found the most fulfillment in roles where I am bringing joy to people. I was a House Manager a Blue Man Group Chicago, a Community Manager for a TTRPG app, and for just under six years I have been a Goat Wrangler for Party Goats LA. I’ve also spent the last eleven years as the Event Talent Coordinator for a national comic convention promoter, which has allowed me the distinct privilege of working with actors and creatives from a bunch of different background and career paths. These roles, and the friends and communities that came with them, have taught me to make my own opportunities, and follow my gut. I’ll always go for the bold collaboration, advocate for myself and my those around me, and produce the work that speaks to my soul. None of it has been easy, and I’m still sorting out how to make creative work my main source of income, but I trust that if I keep forging genuine connections and creating meaningful work, I’ll figure it out.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’re definitely hitting Lilit Bakery, Muffin Can Stop Us, and Hugo’s for breakfast spots. I would also drag them to my favorite ambient coffee hangouts like Marie et Cie, Romancing The Bean, and Republic of Pie. In the evenings we’re going to visit local pub-n-grub places like The Local Peasant and Laurel Tavern, but also save nights for the best sushi in the valley – Sushi Dan’s has no equal fight me about it – and a cozy game night at home with Grandma’s Thai Kitchen.

My friends and I are proud nerds, so we would absolutely be visiting Geeky Teas and Games at least once, and using a day in Burbank as an excuse to thrift and check out the local oddities shops over there – Catnip Coalition does amazing work for local kitties in need, and is so much fun to wander through! We would also stop in at the local art supply/stationary stores I frequent. Lots of love to Carter Sexton and their amazing staff. Beyond that, I know we would visit the LA Zoo and do all of the best hikes between The Valley and Malibu.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All of my love and gratitude to my Buffalo for 24 weird and wonderful years of sisterhood, to DragonWagon for being the chosen family I never thought I would have, and to my mom Diane for unflinchingly embracing her wild, strange daughter.
