Meet Danilo Batson | Founder and Executive Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danilo Batson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danilo, what is the most important factor behind your success?
We work hard to create a platform where people can find and support their nearest Black-owned business. We have ongoing outdoor market events going on that are 100% Black-owned that allow the community to connect with businesses and business owners in a way that may have not been as easily accessible. Creating those new relationships is the most important factor to our brand. We have our next event coming up on June 11th in Manhattan Beach, CA and getting everyone excited about these events will allow those relationships to keep building.

What should our readers know about your business?
Spicy Green Book aims to empower Black-owned businesses to thrive in the marketplace. We connect customers with these businesses, making it easy for them to participate in what we like to call the ‘Intentional Economy’. Our work enables people to enjoy fantastic food while using their buying power to create a more equitable society. We are building substantive relationships and social trust within communities and creating a more equitable society.
None of this work has been easy but we have been fortunate to have our supporters show up and believe in our vision. In our continued pursuit to create an Intentional Economy we have been working to bring the businesses to those who are looking to support.
We are so excited about our outdoor market events that will have a host of Black-owned food trucks, clothing available for purchase, plants, beauty products, home goods, and so much more. We will be at the Kinecta Federal Credit Union parking lot on Saturday, June 11th from 12pm – 7pm with plans to host so many more. The address is 1440 Rosecrans Ave, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
After getting the pleasure of meeting a lot of these Black business owners, I would take them around to host of wonderful businesses that we can support. All a part of creating that Intentional Economy

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The truth is every success story had many hands that went into it. There was a helping hand all along the way and we hope to continue create a great network in which we can all help each other. I am just glad that everyone has being seeing the importance of helping Black-owned businesses and wanting to support in any way they can. We have been very fortunate to have the community show up and we hope to keep that going.
