We had the good fortune of connecting with Darius Lux and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darius, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
“Never burn any bridges”, I understand the point this is making and it is good advice, however, I have found points along the way where I had to burn a bridge to someone or something that was no longer working out, at times this has been a toxic person or situation that it was better to cut myself off from so I didn’t keep going back to it. Looking back on some moments that I had to make a clean break, I stand by it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer-songwriter-musician, I make positive music with empowering lyrics. As a kid I felt lost in the world at times and cherished the music that uplifted me, I just wanna be part of that musical legacy to whatever extent I am able – for my music to help people thru their day. Behind the scenes the creative path is never easy, especially when its so personal – you must face a lot of rejection and at times, run on empty and still be able to bounce back twice as hard. I have traveled oceans and crossed countries to pursue my dreams. it has been such a passion that I have never thought twice about it, maybe that helped. The challenges are often lonely, on the one hand I have fought for my creative freedom and autonomy over my career and brand, but at the same time I have risked alienation. I guess it’s a balancing act, finding the sweet spot between my ideals and reality.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The open-air food market in downtown along with some of the galleries would be a nice start. A night in Hollywood for sure, bowling (& drinking) at Lucky Strike, Sushi at The Izaka-YA by Katsu-YA on 3rd, Barney’s Beanery was always a blast followed by a show at the Viper Room or Troubadour. Santa Monica pier for sure, rent some bikes and ride down the Venice promenade to Marina Del Rey. A nice hike thru Runyon Canyon, followed by lunch at Cheebo. If it’s in season maybe even an evening of jazz at the LACMA, take some wine and cheese and sit out on the grass. Dang, I love this city!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Chris Fletcher at Musicians Institute has been a priceless ally, mentor and friend. She has shown me so much support, taken so much time and effort to understand what I do and get me pointed in as many good directions as possible. She taught me how to tour successfully with booking strategies and research that has allowed to play and travel thru 5 different states and actually make money doing it. I can’t thank her enough!
