We had the good fortune of connecting with Darius Portley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darius, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor in my career I would have to say patience and understanding. You can’t always get the role you want or dreamed of having, I honestly thrive off of not getting picked because it only makes me work harder then the next person. I find different ways to become better not just as an actor but as a person and i intrepid that into my career, being successful you can not be afraid to fail or be told no, you’ll hear no before you hear yes 6 times out of ten, but when you do hear that yes, man embrace it because you never know when you’ll hear that yes again and it could possibly be your start. But, being successful you also have to embrace the fails and the doubts it will come no matter how much of good person you are or great actor it will come and it will hit you hard so just roll with it and learn from it because next time you will be ready and so much more prepared. Take everything you learned from failing and use that yo build your foundation, cause when you turn around you will have a building. So keep going and fail because your failures will become your greatest asset and factor.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think of myself as a person who looks at a hardship or something that’s impossible like an opportunity. I’m most proud of where I came from and how I was raised I know I was truly blessed with such a amazing group of family and friends who really cared about me and my dream as an actor, a lot people can’t say that at all. Starting this journey was hard nothing came easy I had to work a full time job just to support myself cause it was only me I had nobody helping me but I didn’t let that get me down, yes it did discourage me from time to time but I picked myself up, because I knew I was the only person that can do it I had to have confidence in myself and my skills, nobody else was going to do it for me and I wanted it for me. I learn you have to pick and choose your battles, and also the way you see life and your surroundings and understand your purpose on earth, because we all have a purpose seek it out and follow it. I also learned patience and understanding , I thought I knew or rather I thought I had it until I realized I never really truly grasped the concept of patience and understanding until I took acting seriously or took what I always wanted to seriously. I want people to know that I will become one of the greatest actors that ever lived from Houston,Tx that a southern boy can make it big despite all the odds and the slim to none sources in my city for actors that if you believe in yourself enough to scare you and people around you then you are going to be an idea or a legacy for younger or older people to follow and say “ hey he made it out of a city that has no sources, but he worked hard and believed in himself no matter the struggles or little help he got he made it happen” I want to be an inspiration to everybody that you can honestly do whatever it is your heart desires because my dream is to build a production studio in my hometown and be known as the greatest actor who walked the earth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well living in LA I would definitely take them to Venice beach or go to a couple of museums and art galleries. But most of all I would take them to Hollywood where I would show them the walk of fame and tell them this is where my name will be just wait on it lol. Celebrities we gotta go to Rodeo Dr you will most likely catch them there. I know a few places where we can go and pig out at but honestly I forgot the names but I remember the area that they were in.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God of course

My mother and father

All of my family and friends

And the people who want more out of life and who want to dream big but are scared because it’s something that is impossible
