We had the good fortune of connecting with Dave Faige and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dave, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It started some time ago when I was out to lunch with a colleague. At the restaurant, I noticed they had put up screens with content about their menu items. I pointed this out to my colleague who identified it as digital signage. I thought “I can do that!” Not long after, my last time as an employee of a company came to an end. I targeted a sandwich shop in the local mall as a starting point for my business. The video loop I prepared for the shop got the attention of other merchants and the mall’s own management, and thus my business was born. Most of the business I got ended up being photography and video, however, which I did for around 10 years. When Covid came around, things changed. I redirected my business away from video and photography and went into doing story treatments with visualizations done in 3DCG. This was supplemented by gigs as sound engineer and technical director.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am working on story treatments, with visualizations done in 3DCG.

The main story I’m working on came about while learning and experimenting with 3D computer graphics. I designed a few characters and put them into situations. Over time, a story developed to align with the various images that were created. This ended up being a science fiction story, taking place in its own universe with original characters confronted by a situation that causes anomalies to take place. It is the tale of a day in the life of two characters; one a pilot and the other something akin to law enforcemnt, their separate stories told in parallel. Their paths intersect at midpoint, where one helps the other, and then they go their separate ways. There is also a band of musicians that the story eventually revolves around. The story has elements of multiple universes and multiple dimensions.

A second story concerns a girl who finds herself in the middle of nowhere, wherein is only a bench and a sign that says ‘bus stop’. She eventually discovers the reason she is there, which is just the beginning of the adventure.

The end products of my business are the story treatments and the 3DCG artwork.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
– Ronald Reagan Presidential Library offers an excellent presemtation of the presidency of Ronald Reagan. They have special exhibits throughout the year. For example, one of the special exhibits was about the FBI, where they had the Bonnie and Clyde car and the Unabomber’s hut.

– Arroyo Simi Greenway bike trail extends through most of Simi Valley, and provides a place to ride a bike (or, walk) for a couple of hours, surrounded by nature and away from traffic.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Clean Threads Laundry (cleanthreadslaundry@gmail.com) I’ve been going to the same location over the years, and several changes of ownership, and Jill and Howard are the best and most friendly that’s ever been there.
