We had the good fortune of connecting with David Emenheiser and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, why did you pursue a creative career?
I started my creative career after battling drug addiction for 20 years when my life was at it’s lowest and I was starting to heal what was broken in me I found photography. Today I have 7 years clean and sober 🙏 early in my recovery I would just go out on these adventures with my camera phone and 3 years ago I got my first camera and the progress I’ve made since then has been huge and such a blessing. I went from low life drug addict to a well known and respected photographer it’s just mind blowing to me and I’m so humbled to be recognized again and again for something I truly love and honestly something that saved my life 🙏
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is I shoot such a wide variety of subjects. I see beauty in everything from planes to landscapes to people. I shot for so long and so often for myself that eventually I was being noticed everywhere and people would reach out and wanted to pay me. Which by the way is still crazy to me but I’m humbled and honored to be paid for something I love to do and that’s when David Joseph Photo was born
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I live in Lancaster, ca which is in the high desert but the good thing about that is I’m an hour away from everything from the mountains to the beach to the city. Ventura is one of my favorite places in California because that’s where I was in rehab for a year so I’d definitely take them there and eat fish tacos at this little tiny place by silver strand beach, next a trip to the city of angels to see some of the beautiful skyline , and of course they amazing scenes on the outskirts of Lancaster filled with Joshua trees Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to first and foremost give credit to God for taking this broken man and putting a purpose in me and blessing me with so much. I also want to thank my beautiful wife Darlene for encouraging me and inspiring me from the beginning she was and continues to be my greatest support and Encourager.
