We had the good fortune of connecting with David Haffter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, is there something you believe many others might not?
The early bird gets the worm. Be the first person up in the morning, workout, meditate, be the first person at the office.
Ugh, I freaking hate mornings. I just don’t function well right out of the gate. Why would I make important decisions in this state of mind? If I work out, I’m Lethargic all day. If I eat a big breakfast or start with a smoothie I slow down. My body clock works differently so I try and work with that clock, not what some Alpha male poster says I need to do.
Typical day; Alarm goes off, hit snooze, try and get some snuggle time in, maybe get lucky…. Get out of bed, get my coffee going, maybe a lite breakfast. let my body and mind get in sync for the day. Look at important emails and reply if needed, maybe get on the phone in the car on the way to the office. I have already impowered my staff and employee’s to make decisions on their own. I accept that they will sometimes make mistakes. That life. Get in the office, feeling good with my morning ramp up and I am ready to get at it. I usually stay later in the office as well, Maybe 7ish. This will give me quiet time to really finish up any tasks that did not get completed, meet with the second shift team to let them know others are working as well, or will let me start the next days to do list in peace.
The point for me is to work with my strengths and not mold myself into something I am not.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own a Graphic Sign Design company with my business partner Loren Hanson. We have been in business for over 14 years and have a pretty great working and social relationship. For us it seems natural and we don’t let egos get in the way of good decision making. I understand his strengths and makes sure he stays on track with what he is great at and he holds me accountable in the same manner. We are both driven and motivated to have the best graphic design sign company in any of the markets we enter. Like we tell all of our team members, WE don’t care what you do for the company, be the master of your trade and live your best life. Life is too short to be 50%, be 100%!!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The great thing about Riverside CA, is that its in the middle of everything! We can be at the Beach in 45 Minutes, we can be in the mountains in 45 minutes, we can be at the vineyards of Temecula in 30 minutes or down in beautiful San Diego in a little over an hour. I love taking people to the Mission Inn in downtown Riverside, or one of my favorite restaurants Mario’s place across the street. The pedestrian walkway in Downtown is filled with really cool shops. Its a great place to support small business. Riverside is currently building a new central library that is absolutely spectacular. Amazing architecture, great graphics (by us of course) and will probably be a new hub for people to hang out and explore through reading. The best thing about the new library is that the old library will become The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art, That is going to be badass!
Other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
My business partner Loren Hanson, great guy, great leader, driven, supportive and a good friend.
Joo Chung, Amazing Artist, does such cool work. Had a series of her Avenger paintings showcased in the ArcLight Cinema in Pasadena. I am lucky enough to have a couple of originals as well as a piece I commissioned her to paint of a pivitol scene in the Walking Dead. Art by Joo | Facebook, www.artbyjoo.com
Stephanie Flannery, Tattoo artist extraordinaire. Her art style is sought after so many people that she is booked three months out. Crazy good art style, cutting edge. Her ink and paintings are the shit! Stephanie Flannery (@naturenox) • Instagram photos and videos
