Meet David Heckenberg | Singer/Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Heckenberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Quality sleep, good food, and meaningful relationships. These things keep my life simple so the ups and downs can unfold in the background in their own time as I remain present for all of it, it’s kinda like watching a movie for the first time…I’m just curious to see what happens next. My close relationships help me feel supported and we lean on each other when the going gets rough, it works it really does.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My music is released under “Hidden Guide.” I don’t know if there’s anything that sets me apart, I’m just focused on my side of the street. I’m proud of my sincere desire to remain teachable for the rest of my life. I don’t really know where I am professionally, it’s always my first time being in this moment and I can only go as far as the moment I’m in. Maybe it’s easy, maybe it’s not, I’m not really sure…as I change memories hit different..in the best way. I can only be ok in the moment that I’m in, if anything were ever possible for me it would only ever be able to be possible in the moment that I’m in…jah feel. So for challenges, I just let it all pass through me as it comes, I didn’t invent human emotions, they’ve all been around since the beginning of time…it’s hard to believe they have anything to do with me, today emotions are just a natural human response to what’s unfolding (if anything) in front of me in real time. Be nice, be nice, be nice. Exchange hate for love, admit when I’m wrong, and include the excluded. My story is always subject to change without notice, I ain’t trying to impose anything on anyone and hopefully you’re not trying to impose anything on me cus it’s all our first time being in this moment, we’ve all never been here before.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Totally their call, I’m just along for the ride.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes my family and closest friends…I’ve had plenty of guidance and direction. Dust in the wind, learning as I go, onward and upward, two steps forward one step back, living in the unknown with all the answers in my soul.
